With a new website called Oklama, he initially announced that an album would be released in August 2021. It would be his final release with Top Dawg Entertainment, he stated. After 17 years, he said, “I feel joy to have been a part of such a cultural footprint.”

Morale & The Big Steppers is the rapper’s first studio album since Damn., which earned him a Pulitzer Prize and a slew of Grammy nominations. Between solo albums, he’s worked on various projects and collaborations, including on tracks by Busta Rhymes, Terrace Martin, Sir, and Anderson. Paak.
He had dabbled in the film industry with Ryan Coogler’s Marvel blockbuster, Black Panther: The Album. In 2019, his song “All The Stars” from the film received an Oscar nomination for Best Original Song, but it lost to Lady Gaga, and Bradley Cooper’s “Shallow” from A Star Is Born.
