Meet Georgia Godwin Parents Gwen And Calvin: Australian Gymnast Wins Gold At The Commonwealth Games

Georgia Godwin is a 24-year-old artistic gymnast. She won the bronze medal on the team and uneven bars at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, as well as the silver in the all-around.

In 2013, Godwin competed in her first senior competition at the Australian Championships. She placed third overall, second on vault, fifth on uneven bars, first on floor exercise, and fourth on balancing beam.

At the 2020 Summer Olympics, she competed for Australia and placed the third reserve for the all-around competition.

In the artistic team all-around competition at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, Godwin placed second and earned a silver medal.

Meet Georgia Godwin’s Parents Gwen And Calvin

Artistic gymnast Godwin Godwin was born to her parents on 28 October 1997.

When it comes to Godwin’s parent’s identities, her father’s name is Calvin Godwin. At the same time, her mother’s name is Gwen Godwin.

When she was three years old, her parents bought her a trampoline, which led to the unintended start of her gymnastics career.

Since she liked to bounce around, her mom and dad signed her up for gymnastics lessons at a nearby Gold Coast club, and the rest is history.

She lived in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, with her mother from age nine to thirteen. Brisbane is roughly an hour’s drive from her family home on the Gold Coast.

What Happened To Georgia Godwin’s Ankle?

Godwin, who just won her second gold medal in as many days, wants her accomplishments at the Commonwealth Games to demonstrate that gymnastics is a risk-free activity for kids.

She was distraught after the competition since she had thought about not competing at all in the Birmingham Games because of her prolonged recuperation from her double ankle surgery last year.

In the vault, when she defeated Laurie Denommee of Canada on a tiebreak, her choice to compete was further vindicated.

Georgia admitted that while the discoveries from the previous year had disturbed her, she was optimistic that the sport was now heading in the right direction.

She came agonizingly close to winning a third gold on the uneven bars, but she ultimately settled for silver behind Georgia-Mae Fenton of England, the reigning champion.

The medals are a wonderful bonus, she said. “I simply come to these contests and I just have fun and I try my best.”

Georgia Godwin Siblings & Family

Georgia Godwin’s family hails from Southport, Queensland. She is of Japanese descent on the mother’s side of the family.

She was raised alongside her brother. For almost four years, Georgia and her mom lived away from their family in her early days.

She undoubtedly cherished her relationships with her parents and sibling. Several pictures of her family have been shared on her Instagram account, @georgia_godwin.

As Georgia shared, she would load up the car and head back to the Gold Coast for the weekend every Saturday after training with her mother.

“I enjoyed having my dad and brother there, but they are some of the sacrifices,” she said, noting, “You have to make.”
