Why was Alex Jones ordered to pay $1 billion?

On September 2022, Alex Jones was ordered by the Connecticut Supreme Court to pay $1 billion to Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting victims’ families, relatives, and an FBI agent.

He spread the information on his website by saying that the deadly school shooting was just a hoax and the grieving families were just used as an acting plot to take away people’s gun rights.

The family members and relatives of 26 victims along with an FBI agent, who was among the first responder, filed a defamation lawsuit. They testified that they were harassed and threatened for years by the people who believed in the conspiracy of Alex Jones. It got worse to the point that the victim’s families were recorded without consent and abusive comments were left on their social media.

Mark Barden, one of the victim’s family mentioned that the conspiracy theorists urinated on the grave of their 7-year-old child and were threatened to dig up their son’s coffin.

Both Texas and Conneiticuit Lawsuits judges found the company liable after Alex Jones failed to provide proper evidence. Due to this, he was restricted from giving free speech during the time of his testimony.

The court awarded different sums to the victim’s family along with $90 million to the FBI agent who described the horrific massacre at the school.

Despite owning so many properties, assets, and a million-dollar website, Alex Jones claimed that he’s worth no more than $2 million and quipped.

Alex Jones has been removed from many social media platforms.

In 2018, many social media sites like Facebook, Instagram, Youtube, and Spotify removed all the channels belonging to Alex Jones and InfoWars.

Twitter on the other hand banned him from creating his own platform too.
