Hennadiy Mazehora: Mayor Of Kupyansk Arrested, Handed City To Russia
Another bad news has come forward for Ukraine after the mayor of Kupyansk handed the city to Russian forces; following his action, he has been charged with treason to the country and will be prosecuted accordingly, but he is still not arrested.
Russia decided to invade Ukraine with its massive force. Despite Ukraine’s limitations, they have managed to show great bravery and have been defending their nation’s integrity, but the action of the mayor jeopardized the entire fight back.
In defense of the mayor, he has said that he had no other option but to protect his city and populace from the Russian force, so he decided to negotiate to protect the people of his city.
Further, he has also claimed that the police chief was also with him when he talked with the Russian force. These are mere explanations from his side, so it is not certain that what he is claiming is true or not. Even if he is true he has endangered the entire nation’s sovereignty.
What did Hennadiy Mazehora do? High Treason Charges
Although every Ukrainian is trying to protect their country from Russian invasion, it looks like the mayor of Kupyansk has made a decision that is opposite to that principle.
Not only did he hand his city to Russia, but he has also been reported helping Russian soldiers. People are infuriated by his action and are questioning his position for his nation’s integrity.
Prosecutor General Iryna Venediktova has further added that the mayor provided support to the invaders. As of now, these are allegations, and will need to go through a proper trial for him to be proven guilty.
Hennadiy has claimed that his city was abandoned by the SBU, the prosecutor’s office, and other bodies of government. He has said that he is solely responsible for the thing that happened in this city
