What happened to Harrison Ford’s first wife? Mary Marquardt Wiki Bio

Mary Marquardt was born in the USA in 1945, specific date and place unknown, but her zodiac sign is said to be Sagittarius and she holds American nationality. She is a retired illustrator and a chef, but probably best known for being the first wife of famous American actor Harrison Ford.

Early life and education

Mary was raised an only child by her father who was a bus driver and her mother who was a housewife. She grew up interested in modelling after becoming a cheerleader in high school, however, as she was very good at drawing, she started taking drawing and painting lessons too, and changed her focus.

Upon matriculation, she enrolled at Ripon College, Wisconsin, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in liberal arts in 1967. While she was still attending college, Mary started cooking, and enjoying it so much that she changed her mind again, deciding to become a chef.

Mary’s career

Mary has been working as an illustrator for years now, while she has mostly been focused on her job as a chef. She’s worked as a chef at many popular restaurants in the US, including one owned by her now ex-husband Harrison Ford. She retired from work in 2001 due to illness, and has since been unemployed.

Love life and marriage with Harrison Ford

Mary met Harrison in 1962 while she was still attending high school, and they married two years later on 18 June 1964. She supported Harrison while he was working his way up in the film industry, and she suggested that he try to become a voice-over actor in Los Angeles – although Harrison did not get the job, he was hired by Columbia Pictures, and soon landed his first movie role. In 1966 Mary gave birth to their son Benjamin, while their second son Willard followed in 1969.

It was in 1977 that Harrison became famous worldwide, after portraying Han Solo in the critically acclaimed movie “Star Wars”.

In the same year, he secretly started seeing Carrie Fisher who was appearing in the same film portraying Princess Leia. Mary found out about the two’s affair, which led to her and Harrison’s divorce in 1979.

Mary is still very close to both of her sons – Benjamin has decided to become a chef as well, and Willard is a clothes designer. Benjamin and Mary were working together at a restaurant in Culver City in California before Mary was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2001, and had to stop working. Benjamin has a son Ethan from his first marriage, and a son Waylan from his second marriage.

Hobbies and other interests

Mary has been a fan of the film industry since a very early age, and some of her favorite actors and actresses are Robin Williams, Will Smith and Meryl Streep, while some of her favorite movies include “Patch Adams”, “Seven Pounds”, and “The Devil Wears Prada”. She is a fan of jazz and blues music, with some of her favorite singers being Frank Sinatra and Louis Armstrong. She enjoys being outdoors, spending her free time in nature, and she is a family person as she is very close to her two sons.

Mary is a philanthropist, who has worked with several charity organizations such as Compassion International, United Way, and World Vision International among others. She is a big lover of animals and has had several pet dogs and cats.

Appearance and net worth

Mary is 74 years old. She has long blonde hair and blue eyes, is 5ft 5ins (1.65m) tall, and weighs around 128lbs (58kgs). As of March 2020, her net worth is estimated at over $2 million.
