When it comes to the sport of snowboarding, the name Mark McMorris is a household name for sports enthusiasts. He started snowboarding at a very young age; He got off to a good start and won several medals while breaking and breaking several snowboarding records – even more than most people who were on the field before him.

Whatever challenges he faced on his path to perfection, he never gave up. Mark McMorris is a young man who discovered what he loved to do and went into it with great determination and effort, making him a legend in his field. The trailblazer isn’t even finished yet; He is still very strong at what he does and we just can’t get enough of his talent and always look forward to what he has for us.

Who is Mark McMorris?

Mark McMorris was born on December 9, 1993, in Regina, Saskatchewan, where he grew up alongside his older brother, Craig McMorris, and his parents – Cindy McMorris, his mother who is a nurse, and Don McMorris, a grain farmer and politician from the province of Saskatchewan. He attended Dr. Martin LeBoldus High School and became a professional snowboarder after trying his hand at wakeboarding.

At the age of twelve, in 2006, he attempted to break a world record by crossing Wascana Lake with his wakeboard pulled behind a dragon boat for 3.5 minutes. His first competition in the FIS Snowboard World Cup was in the big air competition of the 2009-2010 season, where he finished eighth in Quebec, after which he emerged victorious in the slopestyle in Calgary.

He started winning several awards from the first stage of his career. Before he turned 18 in 2011, he competed in the winter X Games and won a silver medal with fellow Canadian competitor Sebastien Toutant taking first place in the slopestyle competition. He had a taste for victory and won a gold medal in the Air & Style contest of the World Snowboard Tour the same year.

The following year, 2012, at Winter X Games XVI, he won double gold after taking first place in slopestyle and Big Air. This award has not gone to anyone else after Shaun White in 2009.

2013 was a better year for him as his excellent performance at Winter X Games XVII earned him a slopestyle gold medal with the highest score in slopestyle history at the X-Games. He also earned a lost silver medal to Torstein Horgmo in the Big Air competition. At Winter X Games XVIII in 2014, he was beaten by Max Parrot, another Canadian snowboarder in the slopestyle event, where he had consistently ranked first for the past two seasons.

He received the silver medal due to a broken bone. He was injured when he tripped over the rails during the competition but never gave up until the end of the race. Despite the incident, McMorris was still pleased with his performance, saying the progress he had made, even with a broken rib, was inexplicable.

In 20015, at the Winter X Games XIX, he obtained a double gold medal in the Big Air and Slopestyle events. The Winter X Games XX in 2016 brought him a gold medal in slopestyle and diving in Big Air. He suffered an accident after his 2016 matches while in Los Angeles for Shaun Whites Air + Style Big Air when his right femur was broken during a triple cork 1440 attempt to the front. He was at Fortius Sports & Health in Vancouver for treatment, but the accident did not prevent him from appearing at the Games the following year, where he earned two bronze medals.

In 2018, eleven months after the accident, he returned to the Winter Olympics where he represented Canada and found himself in third place against Max Parrot and Red Gerard.

Five things to know about snowboarding

He is one of the greatest and most talented snowboarders.

It’s no surprise to know that Mark McMorris is one of the most talented people in snowboarding. He won seven gold medals, six silver medals and three bronze medals, making a total of sixteen medals.

His brother is also a snowboarder

With McMorris’ talents, it’s safe to say snowboarding is an inborn thing, and learning that his only sibling, Craig McMorris, his older brother shares the same gift and has also competed in several competitions himself is surely something. Perhaps funny is that they weren’t even exposed to snowboarding when they were growing up and no one could have expected this talent to come from their family.

He loves tattoos

This tall snowboarder seems to have a soft spot for tattoos as he has a lot of them inked on his body. Some of the ones that can be seen on him are images of wheat sheaves, lakes and mountains and of course there will probably be some that we cannot see.

The McMorris brothers are philanthropists

The two brothers are not only talented but are also great humanitarians who have understood that not all children have the luxury of having access to sport as they have. The brothers therefore created in 2012 a foundation, the McMorris Foundation, which allows young Canadians to explore their sporting potential at an affordable price and in an accessible atmosphere.

He has weird nicknames

Like most people, Mark McMorris also had nicknames growing up, but he seemed to have some weird and really unique nicknames that are mostly different from the normal nicknames we know. His brother, Craig, said he was nicknamed a piglet growing up. “McLovin” became his nickname when he started snowboarding, and he was given that name because of his funky, happy, kind and positive nature.
