English actor Mark Ian Addy was born on January 14, 1965. In addition to playing Detective Constable Gary Boyle in the sitcom The Thin Blue Line from 1995 to 1996 and Hercules in the fantasy drama series Atlantis from 2013 to 2015, he has made appearances in a number of other British television programs.
As Dave Horsefall in The Full Monty in 1997, Addy made his acting debut and was nominated for a BAFTA Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role. He has also played well-known characters including athers, Bill Miller, and Fred Flintstone in the CBS sitcom Still Standing, which aired from 2002 to 2006.
Since at least 1910, when his paternal great-grandfather was reported in the city, Addy’s family has called York home. At York Minster, his father, Ian, was a glazier. Addy attended York’s Joseph Rowntree School for his education.
At the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London, where he earned an acting diploma in 1984, he continued his acting education. During his time in school, Addy received a three-week work experience at the York Theatre Royal, which ignited his passion for performing. He found it to be so enjoyable that he wanted to stay on staff and eventually make acting his career.
