Guadalupe Rivera Saavedra, popularly known as Lupillo Rivera, is an American singer-songwriter. Once his album, Te Esclavo y Amo, won a Grammy in 2010, he earned appreciation from the critics.
Lupillo comes from a musical family; his late sister Jenni Rivera was a well-known singer and actress. For its inaugural season in 2019, he served as a coach for TV Azteca’s Mexican singing competition series La Voz.
The father of Lupillo, Pedro Rivera, who owns the recording studio Cintas Acuario, gave his son his start in the music industry by hiring him to work there.
Lupillo initially wanted to open a restaurant, but he started working at his father’s studio after a vocalist didn’t show up for a recording session. Lupillo was assigned the task of scouting out local artists at bars who might sign with his father’s business.
When he initially began singing, Lupillo went by the moniker “El Torito” Lupillo Rivera; but, as his popularity grew, he eventually changed his stage name to “El Toro del Corrido.”
Lupillo may have chosen the moniker “El Toro” because El Toro Rivera, his uncle, was a well-known professional boxer in Mexico.
