It’s not easy to do in a comedy. It takes more than a funny bone and the ability to elicit a few giggles from a listening audience. Comedy is incredibly hard work that has everything to do with timing, relevance and a great understanding of the audience a comedian has performed before. Not many people have managed to become extremely successful in the comedy game, but Louis CK has achieved an incredible amount of success. He won both an Emmy Award and a Grammy Award during his flying career, and when he was at the top of the game, he lost practically everything to his own actions. Find out about the life of this comedian and what he’s up to right now.
Louis CK – Bio
Louis CK was born on September 12, 1967. Although his birthplace was Washington DC, he grew up in Massachusetts. The comedian’s full name is Louis Szekely and he has both Mexican and Hungarian ancestry through his parents. His adoptive name Louis CK was actually derived by changing the pronunciation from Szekely to See-Kay as the original Hungarian name really confused people. His parents eventually divorced when Louis CK was 10 and his mother worked very hard to raise the three of them. Growing up at home with his mother and siblings, watching bad television programs became his inspiration for wanting to be a comedian.
See-Kay tried his hand at stand-up comedy at 17, getting up and joking in front of an open mic crowd in Boston, but he was pretty bad at first. His material only lasted for three minutes. Eventually, he moved to New York in 1989 after graduating high school three years earlier. New York wasn’t much fairer for the young comedian, as comedy, which was thriving in the ’80s, was in decline at the time as clubs closed their doors and went out of business. A determined Louis CK practiced his routines in empty spots and had a slew of unsuccessful auditions for Saturday Night Life. He fought in every way.
The tide began to turn when Louis CK scored a job as a clerk on a cable show called Caroline’s Comedy Hour . From then on, he began writing for numerous other television shows, including The Chris Rock Show . He landed a gig with HBO in 2006, where he created and starred in his own show called Lucky Louie . It was canceled after just one season, but an undeterred CK also released a few comedy specials that he sold through his website, which have grossed him over a million dollars. In 2010 he premiered Louieon FX and wrote/directed 13 episodes per season. The show was a hit in 2012 and 2014, winning Emmys in Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series.
His Grammy Awards were in 2012 in the Best Comedy Album category for his concert film Hilarious and then in 2016 for his comedy tour Special Live at Madison Square Garden. In 2017 he directed a film called I Love You Daddy which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival.
Wealth (income and earnings)
Louis CK brought many of his problems with him, but despite the many repercussions on his actions, his net worth is still an estimated $35 million. The numerous networks that have parted ways with him and severed his contracts will likely see the comedian’s net worth being revised down further in the years to come, but he still remains a very wealthy man for now.
wife and children
Louis CK is one of the numbers of divorced famous people. He married an artist named Alix Bailey in 1995, but the two divorced in 2008. Before their separation and divorce, they had two daughters and they share custody with C.K’s daughters, who provide him with much of the material for his comedy.
What is he doing now?
Louis CK had worked hard and built quite a successful life for himself, but he also engaged in behaviors that guaranteed the disintegration of much of his empire and legacy. In November 2017, a damning article about the comedian was published by The New York Times. It has been alleged that CK masturbated in front of female colleagues in the industry. The story had a number of repercussions for the comedian’s career, particularly after he confirmed the claims. Numerous media organizations parted ways with him and canceled his shows from their platforms.
The comedian with his recording had also revealed that he would listen and learn. He therefore stayed away from the public scene for about a year, but did make an unannounced appearance at New York’s Comedy Cellar on August 26, 2018, giving his first public performance since recording. The crowd received him well despite giving a standing ovation in the 15th minute, but there were numerous expressions of displeasure towards the club and afterwards on the internet.
