Logan Holgate Death And Obituary: How Did Red Devils Hooker Die?

Tributes are pouring in following the sudden and tragic sudden death of Logan Holgate, 18, who had been deemed a ‘star of the future.’

Daily Mail reports that the cause of Logan’s passing is still unconfirmed. We might need to wait for more to discover his death cause.

The Rugby Football League (RFL) confirmed on Wednesday, January 11, that the Cumbrian teenager had died suddenly.

It paid a touching tribute to the talented teenager, stating, “Everyone connected with the England Community Lions Programm was saddened to hear about the sudden passing of Logan Holgate.”

Logan was on the U-18 pathway at Salford and was chosen for the England Community Lions U-19s last year.

He had been playing for Hensingham besides his role in Salford’s development set-up. He was set to move up to the reserve team this season.

Salford Red Devils paid tribute on Twitter, writing, “Everyone at Salford Red Devils is saddened to hear about the sudden passing of Logan. Our thoughts are with his family at such a sad time.”

The wider rugby league community has been responding to the devastating news.

Hensingham ARLC, the club Holgate represented at the youth level, also paid their tribute on social media.

The post read, “Logan has been with our club since he was young and had played for our open age and U18’s’ this year,” before expressing condolence to his family and friends.

Likewise, a statement from St Benedict’s RUFC read, “All at St Benedict’s are devastated. At just 18, Logan was a rising star on the rugby scene locally and nationally.”

The Red Devils Hooker Was An Emerging Rugby Star

Logan Holgate had followed in his older brother’s footsteps to make a distinct impact in the sport.

The talented hooker followed his family tradition in representing the Lions, hot on the heels of big brother Ellison and younger brother Fletcher.

Logan first caught attention in 2021 and had his Lions debut for the U-16s in a win over Wales at Colwyn Bay.

His burgeoning club form helped him come firmly into the plans of the Under 19s selectors, impressing in trials before making it to the final touring squad that created history last September in Italy.

“He was a virtual ever-present during the exhausting six-game qualifying day, impressing teammates and staff with his work ethic, infectious attitude, and quick humor,” his team wrote.

Logan helped England win the Under-19 European Championship title in 2022. He played superbly in the Semi-Final and the Final as the Lions beat Wales before defeating France for the Championship in dramatic and emotional scenes.

“He leaves a lasting legacy on the program and staff, a brilliant young man and teammate,” the team remembered.

An online fundraiser is created to help Logan’s’ family. The GoFundMe has raised over £15,870.
