Lilan Bowden Bio (Age, Origin)
Lilan Bowden, a girl from Cali, was born on September 1, 1985. She and her younger brother Jason were born and raised in Castro Valley, California. Lilan graduated from Castro Valley High School in 2002 and then went to the University of California.
Like her father, Lilan Bowden is ethnically American and her mother is Taiwanese. Growing up, there was a constant struggle to fit in as the Asian-American was led to believe that she wasn’t “Asian” or “white” enough. Plus, her journey to Hollywood hasn’t been easier. For the first time she was pigeonholed in certain things as her mixed ethnicity only brought her supporting roles and not the desired and good roles.
But in her later years, Lilan initially felt frustrated and NOT “all American,” she learned from her earlier experiences and applied them to her acting. Noticing that mixed families weren’t represented on television as often, Bowden realized that taking on roles like this could be an advantage for her in the industry.
While some of her kind have chosen to see the derogatory slang “Hapa” (a Hawaiian term for those mixed with an Asian and any other ethnicity), Bowden appropriated her identity and proudly identified with it.
career
Endowed with a good sense of humor, Bowden began acting at a young age and was an active part of her high school’s improv and comedy clubs.
Searching for her Hollywood dreams in Los Angeles, Bowden began her career writing and performing sketch comedies and appearing regularly at comedy theater Upright Citizens Brigade (UCB). She is an integral part of the sketch group “Lilan and Wilder”.
Lilan Bowden is best known for her starring role as the independent and free-spirited Rebecca Bex Mack on Disney Channel’s family-based comedy series Andi Mack . In the TV show, which chronicles the interesting life of Andi, a middle school student, Bowden portrays the character of a young mother trying to figure out unplanned pregnancies and motherhood.
With an interesting twist, the comedy-drama series initially portrayed Bex as Andi’s older sister, but later wowed viewers with the revelation that she is actually her mother. If the ratings are anything, Bowden arguably hit the jackpot with the Disney series and made a name for himself in the industry.
Before her big break, the actress and comedian, who has been in showbiz since 2007, has been involved in several other projects. Bowden’s filmography shows distribution in television series and short films. In particular, some of her TV credits include Gullible Gil , Suburgatory, Parks and Recreation, The Pete Holmes Show, Gay of Thrones , and more. Some of the films that do her credit include Zombie Apocalypse (2011) , Fall Flat (2015) and the 2018 action-comedy The Strange Tower , among others.
