Laurie Waters New Contract

BROADCAST NEWS: After 23 years on the air at KMOV (Channel 4), Laurie Waters has retired.

“Laurie was the nicest person imaginable,” station president and GM, Allan Cohen, said today.

Waters joined the CBS-affiliate in 1989 as a reporter and over the years was both an anchor and reporter. Cohen said she asked to be reduced to part-time last year and has co-anchored the station’s weekend evening newscasts along with reporting during the week.

“It was a perfectly friendly parting,” he added. “I wish her all the best.”

Cohen said there are no plans to replace Waters.

In a farewell to Waters on March 29, which was her last day on the air, anchor Larry Conners teared up when he said: “I want to take a moment to honor one of our best reporters and anchors. In 23 years at Channel 4, Laurie helped set the standard for good, solid, ethical reporting.”

Cohen said the only reporter who was at the station when he got there in 1980, Robin Smith, is up for a new contract at the end of May.

“Should I call you to see what happens?” I asked Cohen.

“No, I’ll sit down with her brother, Chris (Smith, an attorney), and just renew her contract,” he noted. Enough said. Published on April 11. 2012 by Broadcast News.
