Lauren Laverne is well known as an English radio DJ, model, television presenter, author, singer and comedian born on 28th April 1978 in Sunderland, England. She presents the weekday mid-morning show on BBC Radio 6 Music. She is also the co-founder of The Pool UK.
In 1982 Lauren enrolled St. Mary’s R.C. Primary School. She later joined St. Anthony’s Girls’ Catholic School between 1989 and 1994. In 1994 – 1996 she attended the City of Sunderland College. During her time in college, she joined a teen punk band called Kenickie. She became known for her funny and acerbic interview-style making her r a popular contestant on comedy panel shows such as Never Mind the Buzzcocks and Have I Got News for You.
Laverne has had a career in both television and radio. Her first presenting job was ‘The Alphabet Show’, a Play UK series. She later on presented planet Pop and Loves Like A Dog for Channel 4, Fanorama for E4, Party in the Park with Melanie Brown and Pop for Five and Orange Playlist for ITV, as well as reporting for RI: SE, leading the house band on Johnny Vaughan Tonight and appearing as an expert in a music special of BBC One’s Test the Nation.
Laverne later became one of BBC2’s main presenters for their coverage of the Glastonbury Festival and the host of ITV2’s coverage of events such as the British Comedy Awards and the BRIT Awards. In 2005 she joined ITV as a host of the Saturday morning music show CD: the UK, along with Myleene Klass and Johny Pitts. The show ended in April 2006.

In 1994 Laverne was in an English four-piece pop-punk band Kenickie. The band consisted of Lauren, her brother Pete – AKA Johnny X – Marie du Santiago and Emmy-Kate Montrose. Lauren had varied roles in the band as she sang, played guitar and wrote the songs.
They released their debut album, At The Club, in 1997 peaking at No. 9 in the UK Albums Chart back. They also played Glastonbury in the summer of 1997 before they split on 15th October 1998 after a gig at London Astoria.
In 2000 she released her solo EP, Take These Flowers Away. She also contributed a version of “In the Bleak Midwinter” to Xfm London’s It’s a Cool, Cool Christmas album which was played at the Reading Festival. She provided vocals on “Don’t Falter” by Mint Royale. She was set to release an album but that was put on hold by the collapse of Deceptive Records. Subsequently, she provided guest vocals on the Divine Comedy’s 2004 single “Come Home Billy Bird”.
