One of the best things that has happened to our generation is the existence of the internet and everything associated with it. Obviously, one thing that comes to mind whenever the Internet is mentioned is Google; an Internet-related services and products company that has significant market share and authority in almost every region of the world where the Internet exists. For this reason and so many others too numerous to mention here, greetings are in order for Sergey Brin and Larry Page, the co-founders of the American multinational technology company – Google Inc.
If not for Larry and Sergey and what they spent their time inventing on the computer, our world would have been held back a lot from where we have come to be today. For this and many other reasons, let’s find out who (Larry Page) really is one of these inventors.
Larry Page Bio (Education)
On March 26, 1973, Lawrence EdwardPage was born to Carl Victor Page and Gloria Page in East Lansing, Michigan, United States. Carl and his wife Gloria were both computer experts; while the former held a Ph.D. from the University of Michigan and was a renowned pioneer in the field of artificial intelligence (AI), the latter taught computer programming at Lyman Briggs College and Michigan State University. It is therefore not surprising to see that their child followed them.
As a child, Page grew up surrounded by computers and science and technology journals that he devoted time to pouring out and absorbing whatever knowledge he could find there. His older brother, Carl Page, taught him how to take things apart and put them together, which piqued his curiosity in technology even more as he began to take most of the items in their home apart to see how they worked. , after which it would restore them and they would still work as before if not better.
Being a curious and creative child, the conventional school system could not have brought out the best in Larry, which is probably why his parents enrolled him in a school where student independence and creativity were encouraged. Thus, Larry was educated at Montessori Radmoor, located in Okemos, Michigan, but was previously called Okemos Montessori School. Page was there from 1975 until his graduation in 1979 before continuing his education at East Lansing High School where he graduated in 1991.
As a high school student, Page spent two summers at the Interlochen Center for the Arts as a saxophonist. He credited his musical training for “Google’s high-speed legacy”, stating that the awareness of playing the right note in a musical performance at the right time and the right duration helped form his sense of speed in the calculation.
After his high school days, Page enrolled at the University of Michigan where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering in 1995. Thereafter, he immediately enrolled for his Ph.D. at Stanford University where he served and earned his Ph.D. qualifying exams. So, he received a Master of Science in Computer Science (MSCS) from Stanford University being that there was a rule in the college where Ph.D. students who passed their doctoral qualifying exams can apply for a degree master’s degree without having to submit a master’s thesis. It is said that this rule exists until today.
Google and co-founder – Sergey Brin
In 1995, while at Stanford for his Ph.D., Larry Page met fellow researcher Sergey Brin while working on understanding the mathematical properties of the World Wide Web in a project dubbed “BackRub.” Search Engine,” which focused directly on ranking web pages based on citations in academic publishing. These academic works at that time were about 10 million documents with an unexplained number of links between them.
Over time and with further research and development of BackRub which saw the emergence of BackRub’s web crawler, the PageRank algorithm, the establishment of a machine lab in Page’s dormitory and the conversion of the Brin’s bedroom into an office and programming center, BackRub gradually metamorphosed into Google. With funding from friends, family, and professors, Sergey Brin and Larry Page incorporated Google in 1998 under the domain name Googol. While Page named himself CEO of the new company, Brin served as chairman of Google.
Larry Page served as Google’s first CEO from its incorporation until 2001 when he stepped down for Eric Schmidt to hold the mantle of leadership. In April 2011, Larry resumed his role only to step down in July 2015 to serve as CEO of Alphabet, a multinational conglomerate and parent company of Google that also has an interest in several sectors like technology, finance, research and life sciences..
Net value
Being someone who has co-invented products and services that are used in almost every part of the world, including pioneering the invention of future technologies that will forever change the way we live our lives, Larry Page is without a doubt doubt on top of wealth.
The Google co-founder and CEO of Alphabet Inc. has an estimated net worth of around $48.8 billion in 2018. At this net worth, he was listed as the 12th richest person on the Forbes billionaires list in 2018.
Who is his wife?
Larry Page is married to Lucinda Southworth, a research scientist and sister of Carrie Southworth. They started dating in 2006 before getting married in 2007 on Richard Branson’s Necker Island and have been married ever since. Together they are the parents of two children born in 2009 and 2011. Other than that, there is no other information available to us about the kids of the computer geek.
Lucinda Southworth was born on May 24, 1979 to Dr Van Roy Southworth and Dr Cathy McLain. Her father worked at the World Bank while her mother was a school psychologist. Lucinda graduated from the University of Pennsylvania before earning her master’s degree from Oxford University and later her doctorate in biomedical informatics from Stanford, after which she began working as a researcher.
