Kylian Mbappe Career

Mbappé became popular when he was very young, by starring in prominent clubs like; AS Bondy, INF Clairefontaine, and Monaco, making his debut as a professional for the reserve team of the last.
Mbappé soon became a regular starter and goalscorer for the first team in the 2016–17 season, helping the club gain their first Ligue 1 title in seventeen years.

The following season he joined Paris Saint-Germain on an initial loan, with a deal in place to join the club permanently at the end of the season for a fee of around €180 million. He made his senior international debut for France in March 2017, after previously representing them at under-17 and under-19 levels.

At the 2018 FIFA World Cup, Mbappé became the youngest French player to score at a World Cup, and became the second teenager, after Pelé, to score in a World Cup Final. 2015–16 season

Mbappé made his first-team debut on 2 December 2015 in a 1–1 Ligue 1 home draw against SM Caen, replacing Fábio Coentrão after 88 minutes. He, therefore, became Monaco’s youngest-ever first-team player aged 16 years 347 days and breaking Thierry Henry’s record set 21 years previously.

On 20 February 2016, Mbappé scored his first goal for the club’s first team, a stoppage-time goal in a home Ligue 1 3–1 win over Troyes; at the age of 17 years and 62 days, he became the youngest first-team goalscorer in Monaco’s history—once again displacing Henry in the process. On 6 March 2016, Mbappé signed his first professional contract, a three-year deal, tying him Monaco until June 2019.

2016–17 season

Mbappé scored the first hat-trick of his first-team career on 14 December 2016 in the 7–0 rout of Stade Rennais in the Coupe de la Ligue round of 16 at the Stade Louis II – the first hat-trick scored by any Monaco player in the competition since Sonny Anderson in 1997.

On 11 February 2017, Mbappé scored the first Ligue 1 hat-trick of his career in the 5–0 home win over Metz; at 18 years and two months, he became the youngest player to score a Ligue 1 hat-trick since Jérémy Ménez did it for FC Sochaux-Montbéliard back in 2005.

On 21 February, Mbappé scored Monaco’s second goal in the 40th minute with a half-volley after receiving Fabinho’s long ball over the opponents’ backline (it was his first-ever UEFA Europa League or UEFA Champions League goal and he became the second-youngest French scorer in UEFA Champions League history behind Karim Benzema) in the UEFA Champions League round of 16 first leg match against Manchester City, which Monaco lost 5–3.

On 5 March, Mbappé scored two first-half goals in the 4–0 Ligue 1 home win over FC Nantes to bring his Ligue 1 career tally to ten goals and become the youngest player in the last 30 years to hit the Ligue 1/Division 1 ten-career-goals mark.

His brace against Nantes on 5 March brought up his 2016–2017 season tally to nine Ligue 1 goals and five Ligue 1 assists in just 822 minutes of Ligue 1 football. On 11 March, Mbappé scored a goal in the 2–1 Ligue 1 home win against FC Girondins de Bordeaux to register his seventh Ligue 1 goal in his last four starts.

In the UEFA Champions League round of 16 second leg match at the Stade Louis II on 15 March, he made the score 1–0 for Monaco in the 8th minute by turning home Bernardo Silva’s low cross from close-range (his 11th goal in his past 11 matches in all competitions) to help Monaco beat Manchester City 3–1 (aggregate score 6–6) and advance to the quarter-finals on the away goals rule. Mbappé ended the season with 44 matches and 26 goals, all competitions comprised.

Kylian Mbappe Paris Saint-Germain

On 31st August 2017, Mbappé was loaned to Paris Saint-Germain. The fee required for a subsequent full transfer was set at a rumored €145 million-plus €35 million in add-ons, making him the most expensive teenager ever, and potentially the second most expensive player ever, behind teammate Neymar. He was handed the number 29 shirt upon arrival in the French capital.

On 8th September he made his debut for the club scoring in a 5–1 Ligue 1 win at Metz, in which Benoît Assou-Ekotto was sent off for fouling him. On 12th September Mbappé recorded his first European goal for Les Parisiens in a 5–0 UEFA Champions League group stage away defeat of Celtic.

He starred in PSG’s 3–0 victory over Bayern Munich in the second group game of the Champions League, setting up goals for Edinson Cavani and Neymar, the latter seeing him taking out a defender with a feint by rolling the ball under his foot.

On 6 December, Mbappé scored his 10th Champions League goal in a 3–1 defeat to Bayern Munich and became the youngest player to reach that mark at the age of 18 years and 11 months. On 8th May 2018, he scored his first league title with the club.

In July 2018, Mbappé was given the number 7 jersey for the upcoming season with PSG, taking up the squad number vacated by Lucas Moura. Sporting the hashtag #K7LIAN, Mbappé stated, “I keep trying to progress on the pitch and I think that, for me, it was the right time to change number.

It is something of an affirmation. The No. 7 shirt is a legendary one and many greats have worn it. I hope that I will be able to do this number of justice on the pitch.” In his first appearance of the season, Mbappé scored twice in the last 10 minutes as PSG won 3–1 against Guingamp in Ligue 1.

ALMOST XI From Cristiano Ronaldo to Lionel Messi, Paul Pogba to Kylian Mbappe – a list of player’s Arsene Wenger almost signed when Arsenal manager

Regrets? Arsene Wenger’s probably had a few – when it comes to transfers.

The former Arsenal manager, who spent 22 years at the club, came close on a number of occasions to signing some of the best-known names in football.

So, on his 70th birthday, talkSPORT looks at a Wenger ‘Almost signed XI’.

Gooners won’t grumble too much about some of the names, though, considering Thierry Henry, Robert Pires, and Igors Stepanovs were all signed on the boss’ watch.

Nevertheless, here’s what you could have had, Arsenal fans…

Goalkeeper: Gianluigi Buffon
When the goalkeeper was 20 years old and plying his trade at Parma, he had dinner with Wenger, who was keen to sign him in 1998.

Buffon, though, remained at the club before sealing a £32m move to Juventus in 2001. “From what I know, there have been three serious times when English clubs made an approach for me,” he revealed in 2017.

“Two of them were when I was a young player at Parma, and I know Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger asked about me – and then, when Manchester City was taken over, I know they approached Juventus.”

Defense: Raphael Varane
Wenger appeared understandably disappointed to have missed out on the defender, who moved to Real Madrid from Lens in 2011 when discussing the failed move.

“I’m happy for him because he’s carving out a role at one of the world’s best clubs, which is remarkable,” he said in 2013. “Yet at the same time, when you are in charge of a club like Arsenal, you have to wonder why this player is not playing for us. He was at Lens, and we might well have caught him there.”

Defense: Vincent Kompany
Man City signed the defender in 2008, but Wenger was keen when he was Anderlecht, shortly before making the move to Hamburg in 2006.

Speaking at the time, the player’s agent, Jacques Lichtenstein told Het Laatste Nieuws: “Arsenal were interested in Kompany.

“Wenger made it clear that he wanted to sign Kompany to replace Sol Campbell if he would leave the English giants.”

Defense Gerard Pique
When Arsenal signed Cesc Fabregas from the Barcelona academy in 2003, they also wanted his good friend, Gerard Pique. However, Wenger couldn’t get the deal done and the defender joined Man United in 2004.

“It was at a period where Fabregas came. We wanted to take Fabregas, [Lionel] Messi and Pique. It worked only for Fabregas.”

Midfield: Gareth Bale
“We didn’t take him as we had Ashley Cole and Gael Clichy and didn’t want another left-back. I must confess it was a huge mistake as he can play in midfield,” Wenger explained in 2013.

“He struggled at the start at Tottenham, then they moved him to midfield and he has done exceptionally well. The career of a player sometimes depends on playing in the right position.”

Midfield: Paul Pogba
Speaking in 2014, Wenger said: “As a footballer, he has everything. It is difficult to figure out what he doesn’t have.

“Things happened very quickly. We were interested in him. We tried to get him to come [to Arsenal]. But he very quickly signed for Juventus [in 2012]. He has the potential to win the Ballon d’Or.”

Midfield: N’Golo Kante
Wenger and Arsenal made two attempts to sign the Chelsea midfielder, the manager revealed in 2017.

“I tried to sign Kante when he was in France and when he was at Leicester. We cannot explain everything – transfers are transfers – but it is quite obvious when you look at where he has gone.

“I believe Kante has had a huge impact. It’s no coincidence Chelsea are where they are and Leicester did what they did last season.”

Midfield: Jadon Sancho
“I wanted to take him from Man City when he didn’t get the games,” Wenger said earlier this year.

“I tried to lure him because he’s from London. I tried to get him to Arsenal.

“He’s one of the best players of his generation. He can dribble, he has the arrogance.

“There’s something in there that is part of the big players. You can call it arrogance, confidence, belief; but it has to be there.”

Forward: Kylian Mbappe
Wenger admitted he had begun making attempts to sign Mbappe as early as 2016 and the France striker was full of praise when discussing the legendary manager, calling him a ‘football monument’.

“A little while ago, before I signed for PSG, we were in contact in 2017. I chose a different direction but he wasn’t annoyed at me. He was a gentleman about it and wished me good luck.”

Forward: Lionel Messi
“We were in discussions with [Messi] when we bought Fabregas, because Messi played [with him],” Wenger revealed.

“You can realize sometimes what fantastic youth teams you had before when you’re a club like Barcelona. In the same team, Messi, [Gerard] Pique and Fabregas.

“Pique and Fabregas came to England [with Manchester United and Arsenal respectively], Messi stayed in Spain. We were interested in him, but he was untouchable at the time.”

Forward: Cristiano Ronaldo
“Very close. One step. Seriously,” Ronaldo told Piers Morgan when asked how close he came to joining his beloved Gunners.

“It didn’t happen, but Arsenal, I appreciate what they did for me, especially Arsene Wenger. In football you never know where you are going to play, life is like that.”
