“For nearly seven years I have been doing long distance with my husband,” Kane wrote in a Facebook post. “Tom lives in New York and loves his job out there. … However, the traveling back and forth has gotten to be too much.
“Tom and I would like to start a family of our own very soon and it would be too difficult to do that living 774 miles apart (exact number!).”
Kane made a similar announcement on air Monday. Her last day on “Fox59 Morning News” will be Friday, she said.
“I have put my career first for so long, and we have to in this business,” Kane said. “And I think the folks at home know this. You have to move around, and we build our careers. … I have loved the last three year here, but it’s time for us to focus on our future.”
Kane started her career at WCBS-TV in New York and most recently worked at Central Florida News 13, a Bright House Networks news operation.
The TV news industry is notorious for its nomadic talent. WTHR-TV meteorologist Nicole Misencik left the air earlier this month.

September moments: Share one last laugh with Kristin Kane before her departure
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – It was a tough morning for the FOX59 family as we said goodbye to anchor Kristin Kane.
Kristin Kane announced on Monday that she was leaving Indianapolis after working at FOX59 for three years.
For the last seven years, she’s been in a long-distance relationship with her husband, Tom, who lives in New York. She travels back and forth between Indy and New York every other weekend so they can spend time together.
“The time has now come that I need to be with my husband full-time, which is why I have decided to leave Indianapolis and move to New York,” Kristin told viewers Monday.
She hopes to start a family soon and knows that would be difficult when they live more than 770 miles away from each other. She also had a message for FOX59 Morning News viewers.
“This was a very tough decision as I have grown to love Indy, I work with some wonderful and talented people and I’ve met some great Hoosiers outside of work as well.
I want to thank you for being such loyal FOX59 morning viewers and dedicated KK fans over the years. You have made getting up at 2 a.m. totally worth it! At this point in my life, I need to put my personal life ahead of my career.”
But before her departure, she shared one last laugh with us during the “September Moments” segment.

Road to being an anchor: Kane immersed herself in ballet from ages 3 to 16, but an ankle injury forced her to change her interest to musical theater. She attended high school at the Professional Performing Arts School in New York City.
“I was going to school with kids who were performing on Broadway,” she said.
She got an agent when she was 15 and began getting roles in commercials and working as an extra on soap operas, including “All of My Children” and “One Life to Live.”
While attending Columbia University, where she majored in American history, she had internships at CBS and at WCBS in New York City and worked at the cable station News 12 in Westchester, N.Y.
What influenced you? “I was going to high school in New York City when 9/11 happened, and I was glued to CNN.”
Her career path to Indy started in Erie, Pa., in 2008. From there, she moved to Miami, then to Houston and Orlando, Fla., before coming to Fox59.

What is your schedule on a workday? Kane goes to bed at 8:30 p.m. and rises at 1:30 a.m. She arrives at the WXIN studio at 2:30 a.m. and has her hair and makeup done. During this time, she goes over scripts for the morning news show that goes live at 4 a.m. with co-anchor Scott Jones. Her program ends at 7 a.m.
What is your secret for avoiding dark circles under the eyes? “Sleep on two pillows in a cool room,” was her fast answer.
But then she pulled out her secret weapon, a roll-on container of Garnier Skin Renew (anti-dark circle). “Works every time. Then I combine it with a little bronzer, which makes you look more alive.”
What is the morning fuel of choice? Surprise, no coffee. Kane drinks a 12-ounce glass of water with squeezed lemon and cayenne pepper. She eats three hard-boiled eggs and a nectarine. After the show, she has a salad and protein shot.
Do you work out? “Eagle Creek Park is my little slice of heaven,” said Kane, who lives in Carmel with her husband. She runs for an hour after work five days a week.
“On weekends, I try to be normal,” she said, adding she tries not to obsess about her weight but acknowledges the camera adds 10 pounds. “It’s the ballet dancer in me that keeps me aware of my appearance,” she said. Adapted from Fox 59.
