Kit Connor His Dark Materials
Fans of Philip Pullman’s fantasy epic His Dark Materials don’t have much longer to wait to feast their eyeballs on BBC and HBO‘s mega-budget adaptation: the cable giant will premiere the epic series on Monday, November 4.
Now, the cable giant is giving fans an official trailer for the series’ first season, a lengthier and more detailed look at the adaptation than what was released to coincide with this past summer’s San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) panel:
Kit Connor
Production on the sophomore season is already underway – with Andrew Scott (Fleabag, Sherlock) set to join the second season as Col. John Parry/Doctor Stanislaus Grumman, with the season adapting Pullman’s The Subtle Knife. If there is a third season (which is expected), The Amber Spyglass will be adapted to complete the trilogy.
Here’s a look at the voice cast for the series’ eight-episode first season:
● Lyra Belacqua’s (Dafne Keen) daemon Pan(-talaimon) – Kit Connor (Rocketman)
● Lee Scoresby’s (Lin-Manuel Mirnada) daemon Hester – Comedian Cristela Alonzo
● Serafina Pekkala’s (Ruta Gedmintas) daemon Kaisa – David Suchet (Agatha Christie’s Poirot)
● Lord Asriel’s (James McAvoy) daemon Stelmaria – Helen McCrory (Peaky Blinders)
● Mrs. Coulter’s (Ruth Wilson) daemon – puppeteer Brian Fisher (Detective Pikachu)
● Iorek Byrnison, a panserbjørne – Joe Tandberg (The Innocents)
Based on Pullman’s literary trilogy (Northern Lights, The Subtle Knife, The Amber Spyglass) and written by Jack Thorne, His Dark Materials boasts Tom Hooper as lead director and helmer of the first two episodes. Remaining directors include Dawn Shadforth (Episode 3), Otto Bathhurst (Episodes 4 & 5), Euros Lyn (Episode 6), and Jamie Childs (Episodes 7 & 8).
McAvoy plays Lord Asriel, who has a demon in the form of a snow leopard, while Wilson’s Mrs. Coulter has a monkey. Miranda’s air balloon-flying Texan Lee Scoresby enjoys singing with his demon.
The cast of HBO and BBC’s His Dark Materials also includes Anne-Marie Duff, Clarke Peters, Ariyon Bakare, Will Keen, Ian Gelder, Georgina Campbell, Lucian Msamati, James Cosmo, Ruta Gedmintas, Mat Fraser, Geoff Bell, Simon Manyonda, Amir Wilson, Lewin Lloyd, Daniel Frogson, and Tyler Howitt.
Kit Connor In Rocketman
Last year’s Bohemian Rhapsody took the world by storm as the infectious music of Queen combined with the tragic story of Freddie Mercury to delight audiences everywhere. Not six months later, here comes another biopic from an artist of the same era, Rocketman, from the director who took over Bohemian Rhapsody after Bryan Singer was fired. There’s just one key difference: Elton John is still alive, and executive produced the film. He was a part of helping choose which of his classic tunes grace the Rocketman soundtrack, which serves as a platter of his greatest hits.
Unlike Bohemian Rhapsody, where Mercury’s voice was blended with actor Rami Malek’s to create the impression the actor was doing all the singing himself, Elton John wanted star Taron Egerton to sing his own interpretations.
It was so important that the music I composed and recorded had to be sung by Taron. I wanted his interpretation of me, through Bernie [Taupin]’s lyrics and my music — not just acting. I left Taron in the hands of Giles Martin, who I trusted implicitly because he’s brilliant. I didn’t want to be in Taron’s shadows, watching over the process, I trusted them to do what they needed to do, artistically, and listening back I’ve been astonished by the results.
Kit Connor Grandpas Great Escape
He plays The character Of Jack In Grandpa”s Great Escape. Jack (Kit Connor) decides to help his Grandpa (Sir Tom Courtenay), a World War II flying ace, who now suffers from Alzheimer’s disease, escape from an old folks’ home run by Miss Dandy (Jennifer Saunders), who has ulterior motives.
Kit Connor As Elton John
Winged, horned, sequined, penis visibly flopping in his thin orange pants, Elton John (Taron Egerton) first bounds into Rocketman down a hallway draped in white light, as if he’s making his way to the stage and the cheers of an arena full of adoring fans. Instead, in a mischievous gag, it’s revealed he’s actually going, in full costume, into rehab (after fleeing, we later learn, a near-disastrous performance at Madison Square Garden).
This is a wink: Rock star vanity projects can’t help but open with the star headed into a career-defining comeback concert, a return to glory, before flashing back decades to show how we got there. The bait-and-switch is a coy signal that, if this movie can’t quite reinvent the form, it’s at least going to stomp on it in sparkly red heels.
The movie, sorry to say, can’t quite keep up that swagger. Instead, Rocketman mostly proceeds with studious fidelity through the stations of the rocker biopic, with only a few formal tweaks to the formula. We return swiftly to boyhood, where young Elton (variously Matthew Illesley and Kit Connor) is ignored by his father (Steven Mackintosh) and insidiously doted on by his mother (Bryce Dallas Howard, hamming it up agreeably in wigs and carnival-red lipstick).
Unlike many other big-ticket rock origin stories, Rocketman does locate some giddy energy, especially early, in staging its jukebox scenes as old-fashioned musical numbers, with choreographed bits set to refashioned classic songs that distract, at least temporarily, from the demands of the storytelling. Alas, when no one’s dancing, the movie dutifully hits us with lines like “I wish I was someone else” as it careens toward adolescence and young adulthood, at which time, in short order, Reginald Dwight becomes Elton John, finds his lifelong songwriting partner in Bernie Taupin (Jamie Bell), and realizes he’s gay.
