How did Katherine Ann Berman die?

After more than three decades together as man and woman, a devastating tragedy struck the Bermans. On May 9, 2017, Katherine Ann Berman died in a horrific car accident at the age of 67. According to official reports, it was Kathy who caused the accident while driving her Lexus SUV on Sherman Hill Road in Woodbury, western Connecticut. She outpaced a man’s car, killing both of them. While the other motorist, an 87-year-old man, Edward Bertulis, crashed into a pole, Kathy’s vehicle ended up in a nearby stream. She was pronounced dead at the scene but Bertulis, who sustained multiple injuries, was rushed to Waterbury Hospital and later lost the fight to life.

Research has shown that Katherine Ann Berman was intoxicated when she had a blood alcohol level above the Connecticut legal limit. Toxicology testing uncovered traces of oxycodone, tramadol, and antidepressants in her system. Berman, who had just exited a nearby marketplace after having lunch and drinking with her sister, was speeding, failing to maintain her lane and failing to brake before crashing into Bertulis’ car. On the other hand, Bertulis, whose wife died in 2015, was on his way back from her gravesite, as he has been every day since her death before his car was hit by Katherine. He was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the incident.

During a police interview with Kathy’s sister, SandraLewis confirmed they both had lunch in the market place, where Berman enjoyed a combination of bread, stuffed mussels and oysters. Although Lewis admitted that her sister drank her lunch with a martini, she claimed that Kathy didn’t finish it. According to Lewis, aside from the back brace she wore for lower back problems, Berman appeared to be fine up until the accident.
