Judy Clark WEAU

WEAU 13 News is celebrating Judy Clark’s 20th Anniversary at the station.

Judy Clark has spent 20 years bringing you the latest stories affecting all of us in Western Wisconsin. Her two decades here, are a testament to her professionalism and commitment.

Even before Judy joined WEAU as a reporter in March of 1990, her professor at UW-Eau Claire knew she was going on to big things.

Henry Lippold, Judy’s former professor says, “she was a very good student. She showed a lot of promise.”

Judy started where many of us in the business do, on the street every day finding stories that matter to the people in Western Wisconsin.

Later, the Tilden native was promoted as an anchor, and as her former co-anchor Senator Pat Kreitlow recalls, took on the responsibility to mentor and teach many of the young reporters who are hired at a small market television station. “She has taken on the qualities of a teacher, parent, colleague and friend. You couldn’t want anything more than that in an anchor in a newsroom,” he says.

n the last two decades Judy has won numerous awards and has helped young people grow in a profession. But she has also served in the role as a leader in the community, working with many local organizations. “She gets out in front of the community for us, and that’s important to me. She’s helped so many non-profits through the years and that really helps our station,” noted Terry McHugh, WEAU’s General Manager.

As a person who grew up in Western Wisconsin, those ties have served her well at WEAU. “You don’t hire somebody local, just for the sake of being local. But you hire someone who’s local and very good at what they do. And Judy is the best at what she does,” Kreitlow added.

It’s not just a career Judy Clark has built at WEAU, but also a family.
She and Production Manager Tom Benson started on the exact same day back in 1990.

Four years later, they were married, and now have two boys.
And her husband says the person you see on the air everyday, is the same person when she goes home at night. “She’s about as genuine of a person that I’ve met in my life, which relates to the station here, and the community can see it. And that’s just the way she is,” Benson says.
