Jonathan Allen’s Biography

Jonathan Allen was born in Anniston, Alabama on January 16, 1995. He was less than a year old when his father, Richard Allen, an Army nuclear and nuclear chemistry specialist, was transferred and had to move his family to Pittsburgh. Growing up, Allen also lived in several other cities/states; South Carolina, Seattle, North Carolina and Maryland before settling in Ashburn, Virginia where he transferred from Western Branch High School in Chesapeake and started playing football at Stone Bridge High School. When Allen’s father enrolled him in Stone Bridge High School, he had no idea what a football-powered school district it was.

During his senior year in 2012, Allen earned a spot as Virginia Gatorade’s Football Player of the Year.

Family

After his parents’ divorce, Allen and his older brother Richard III were estranged for a while; Richard III went to live with their father and Jonathan stayed with their mother for about five years. She disappeared when he was in third grade and the family did not know where she was. While living with his mother, Allen had a fairly unstable life, moving from hotel to hotel and missing school to the point of having to repeat second grade.

This caused child care services in South Carolina to intervene, sparking a custody battle between Allen’s parents. In 2004, a judge ruled that the two brothers felt better with their father and stepmother, whom Jonathan Allen had loved until death. Still, the brothers wondered what happened to their mother after she was asked to undergo a psychological evaluation before she could talk to her sons again. Jonathan Allen has two half-siblings; a younger sister and brother.

Career

Jonathan Allen committed to playing college football for the University of Alabama after graduating from high school. Rated five stars and ranked among the best in its class, which has earned it great recognition. He started as a freshman at Alabama in 2013, played in 13 games and had 16 tackles. The following year and as a sophomore, Allen played in all 14 games, making 12 starts.

In 2015, his efforts for the Crimson Tide led the team to win the 2016 playoff college football national championship. His college stats from 2013–2016 show he played in 50 games; made 152 tackle; 44.5 losses; 28 sacks and 3 forced fumbles.

NFL and NCAA analysis in the United States ranked Allen among the top defensive tackles and projected him to the top five picks for the NFL Draft. However, that was not what had been expected after the diagnosis of arthritis in one of his shoulders and the operation. Nonetheless, he was the 17th player selected by Washington Redskins in the 82nd NFL Draft on April 27, 2017. It was his first contract with the NFL, lasting four years, with a team option for a fifth season. It is $11.59 million, including a guaranteed signing bonus of $6.57 million.
