Jon Rahm Rodriguez is a Spanish professional golfer who was born on November 10, 1994. He held the top spot in the World Amateur Golf Ranking for a record 60 weeks before rising to the top spot in the Official World Golf Ranking in July 2020 after winning the Memorial Tournament. Rahm won the U.S. Open in June 2021 to become the first golfer from Spain to do so.
Rahm turned professional after the US Open, which meant he lost his exemption to the 2016 Open Championship. The following week, Rahm competed in his first professional event, the Quicken Loans National. For the first two rounds, he held or shared the lead, and he finished tied for third, four strokes behind the winner, Billy Hurley III. Because the Quicken Loans National was part of the Open Qualifying Series, Rahm was able to reclaim his place in The Open.
Rahm finished tied for second place in the RBC Canadian Open, earning him Special Temporary Member status for the rest of the season. As a non-member, he accumulated enough points to earn a PGA Tour card for 2017.
Rahm won his first PGA Tour title in late January 2017 when he holed a 60-foot eagle putt on the 18th hole. With the win, he moved up from 137th to 46th in the Official World Golf Ranking and gained entry into the Master’s Tournament, The Players Championship, PGA Championship, and World Golf Championships. Rahm made his World Golf Championships debut on March 2nd at the WGC-Mexico Championship, finishing T3 two strokes behind winner Dustin Johnson.
