Bruce Dickinson is a singer, pilot, writer, musician, and actor, among other professions, and is the lead singer for the heavy metal band, “Iron Maiden”. He has recorded 12 albums with “Iron Maiden” and 6 solo albums. Born Paul Bruce Dickinson on August 7, 1958, in Worksop, Nottinghamshire, England, he is best known as the lead vocalist of the heavy metal band Iron Maiden. Dickinson embarked on his music career as a frontman in small pub bands at school and University. The ensembles he played in at the time include Styx (not the American band of the same name) in 1976, Speed, (1977–78) and Shots in early 1979. Later that year Dickinson became a member of the band Samson, where he enjoyed some popularity under the stage name “Bruce Bruce”. But two years later, he left Samson to join Iron Maiden, the band to catapult him to worldwide stardom. He made his debut with the band with their 1982 album The Number of the Beast as a replacement of Paul Di’Anno. During his tenure in Iron Maiden, they saw the release of platinum and gold albums in the UK and US, which turned Dickinson in one of the most acclaimed heavy metal vocalists of all time. Following his hey day in the 1980s, he embarked on a solo career that started off shaky, but his later work would be praised as some of the vocalist’s best work. It was in1993 when he left Iron Maiden, and thus replaced by Blaze Bayley, Dickinson began to experiment with a wide variety of heavy metal and rock styles. In 1989, Dickinson released his first solo album, Tattooed Millionaire. However, he rejoined Iron Maiden in 1999 along with guitarist Adrian Smith, with whom he released four subsequent studio albums. Never fully abandoning his solo career, Dickinson would issue one further solo record in 2005, Tyranny of Souls. Today, he still splits his time between his solo career and Iron Maiden.
