Wife of Warriors’ owner Lacob gets death threats after viral Beyoncé meme
Nicole Curran, the wife of Warriors owner and CEO Joe Lacob, disabled her Instagram account Thursday morning after spending much of Wednesday night dealing with cyberbullying regarding a viral meme of Beyoncé giving Curran a dirty look during Game 3 at Oracle Arena, according to an ESPN report.
When a camera caught the R&B megastar looking annoyed by Curran as she leaned over her to ask Jay Z a question during the NBA Finals game, it set off a social media storm to the point of death threats, according to ESPN’s interview with Curran.
The network’s Ramona Shelburne broke the story Thursday in a string of Twitter posts, explaining Curran’s side of the story.
Curran told ESPN she asked Beyoncé and Jay Z, who were guests of hers at the game if they wanted a drink. Beyoncé asked for water, and Jay Z opted for a vodka soda. When the camera caught Curran leaning toward Jay Z in an effort to hear over a raucous crowd if he wanted lime, some attacks began on social media.
Curran told ESPN that she didn’t know anything was wrong until she got home and started seeing texts from friends. Then, she checked social media and saw waves of hurtful and scary comments.
“There was no hostility,” she said. “I was trying to be a good hostess. I’ve never experienced cyberbullying like this. I can’t believe our players go through this. That kids go through this.”

Joe Lacob Warriors | Joe Lacob And Peter Guber
Lacob was a primary investor in the American Basketball League, a professional women’s basketball league that eventually folded from failure to compete successfully with its rival, the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA).
In January 2006 he became part-owner of the Celtics, where he became a co-investor with H. Irving Grousbeck, an entrepreneur and a professor at the Stanford Graduate School of Business.
On July 15. 2010, he and the group of investors he headed agreed to buy the Golden State Warriors of the NBA from Chris Cohan for $450 million, requiring him to sell his minority interest in the Celtics.
The Lacob – Peter Guber group won out over a dozen other bidders for the Warriors, involving Oracle chief executive officer Larry Ellison, 24-Hour Fitness founder Mark Mastrov and Texas billionaire financier David Bonderman. He had been a Warriors’ season-ticket-holder for about a decade.
He already had extensive experience operating an NBA team as part-owner of the Boston Celtics, and also points to his friendships with two major league baseball team general managers, Billy Beane of the Oakland Athletics and Jeff Moorad of the San Diego Padres, who have both proven that winning records are not solely related to the size of the team payroll.
He approved the acquisitions of David Lee and undrafted rookie guard Jeremy Lin, a hometown favorite. He also fired coach Don Nelson and replaced him with assistant coach Keith Smart.
The sale was unanimously approved by the NBA league’s board of governors on November 12. 2010. Lacob and Peter Guber are the chief owners, but he is in charge of day-to-day operations.
Before the 2014-15 NBA season, he fired coach Mark Jackson who had just led the Warriors to the playoffs in consecutive seasons.
Joe explained the decision at a conference of fellow venture capitalists: “Part of it was, he couldn’t get along with anybody else in the organization.
And, look, he did a great job — and I’ll always compliment him in many respects — but you can’t have 200 other people in the organization, not like you.”
He generated some controversy by calling his team “light years” ahead of everybody else in the NBA during the (2015-2016) NBA season.
The Warriors won championships in the 2014-15 NBA season, (2016-2017) NBA season, and the 2017-18 NBA season.
During his tenure as owner, Golden State attained the NBA records for the best regular season with 73–9 and most wins in a season with 88 in 2015–16, as well as best postseason with 16–1 “.941 winning percentage” in 2016–17.

Joe Lacob Klay Thompson
Joe Lacob explains why Klay Thompson wrong to call out Warriors fans
“I would never say anything bad about Klay. But I think he was wrong about this one. And if I saw him today I would’ve told him that,” Lacob said. “Look, I go to all the games. I’m a fan.
“I thought at the end of the game last night the fans were on their feet. They were trying to bring the guys back and Klay, by the way, was the guy at the middle of it, playing really hard defense, played great.
“Unfortunately, we weren’t able to pull it off … fans not being totally into it, maybe that’s the way he perceived it. I didn’t see that. I think our fans are great.
“I think he was just frustrated that we lost.”
After practice on Monday, head coach Steve Kerr also addressed Klay’s surprising words.
“I do know one thing, we thrive off on the energy at Oracle,” Kerr told reporters. “The fans have helped us win at a high level and we need them, but we have to give them more to cheer about.”
