They resided in a neglected village towards the northeast of France known as Domremy.
Moreso, during the childhood days of Joan of Arc, there was already a war going on known as the Hundred Years War. The battle between England and France was a siege for the heir to the throne. In 1420, the French ruler, Charles VI, lost his throne to the King of England and King Henry V began to rule in both stadia, which wreaked havoc in northern France where Joan lived. and his family. A few years later, the two kings – Charles of Valois and Henry V died, leaving King Henry Toddler to rule and it was a great opportunity for power to return to France.
Regarding Joan’s education, sources say that she did not go to a formal school but was educated by her mother in religion and craftsmanship. She later learned a lot about the doctrines of the Catholic Church and followed them. When Joan of Arc was 16, her father arranged a marriage for her, however, she protested this in court and got his wish.
Missions and achievements of Joan
Joan of Arc claimed that God spoke to her via inaudible voices and visions from the age of twelve regarding France and devotion. In a vision, he was asked to approach Charles VII who was heir to the throne for a green light to force the fragile new English king off the throne so he could replace him as King of France. In the vision, she was also told to seek help from an ally of King Charles VI named Robert de Baudricourt.
However, when Joan of Arc approached Robert, he initially refused to grant her access but when he saw that she had the support of the masses, he asked for a band of soldiers to escort her. Jeanne disguised as a man, takes off to see Charles VII – the legitimate son of King Charles VI and heir to the throne. However, Charles VII, being royal, did not take her in as his initial reaction to Joan’s call to see him was negative. She eventually approached him from a crowd of people and got a chance to talk with him. It is said that Joan gave him information that only a messenger of God could give and after asking his priests to examine Joan whom they had found nothing to complain about, he listened to what she had to say.
Joan of Arc then received a troop of soldiers for the conquest and they headed to Orleans to fight the Burgundians who were on the side of England. They were able to force them past the Loire for a short while, but it wasn’t long before Joan’s fame spread across the French province. His troop transported Charles VII to Reims – the coronation place, to crown him king and on their way they defeated all the provinces that stood in their way.
Prince Charles was crowned King Charles VII in July 1429 but Jeanne did not want to stop there, she wanted the troupe to make an attempt to redeem Paris, but the king refused, in particular because his friend Georges de La Trémoille made him feel that Joan of Arc becomes extremely powerful quickly.
Soon after, the Anglo-Burgundians grew stronger and reinforced their army for a return attack. Joan of Arc was commissioned by King Charles VII to resist the Burgundians, but she was forced off her horse fighting for her city. She was taken captive by the Burgundians outside the city gates. She spent months with the Burgundians while the English negotiated her release. Eventually, the Burgundians collected 10,000 francs for his release.
Subsequently, Joan of Arc was forced to stand before Rouen, a commander in England as she was charged with heresy. Meanwhile, King Charles VII distances himself from her and he is no longer convinced by her spiritual insight. Joan faced trial after trial for allegations of heresy, witchcraft and dressing like a man for which she exceptionally defended herself in public hearings and was quickly transferred to private hearings. They couldn’t find any guilt on her but decided to charge her with dressing like a man in an army suit and eventually made it a death penalty crime.
