It was a big loss for the bluegrass scene. According to recent internet sources, Jesse McReynolds, one of Southwest Virginia’s bluegrass greats, recently passed away.
McReynolds, a bluegrass veteran who wasn’t in his close circle anymore, passed suddenly on June 23. Many individuals were surprised and in anguish as soon as word of his passing circulated. He has inspired several generations of bluegrass musicians, and he will continue to do so.
Nashville received some very sad news this morning with Joy McReynolds’ statement that her husband, Jesse McReynolds, of the Jim & Jesse fame, had entered hospice care.
It’s hard to realize that Jesse has been playing bluegrass music professionally for 70 years. They released their debut record as Jim & Jesse in 1952, with his brother Jim serving as their first guitarist.
