Jennifer Rose Horton (formerly Alamain, Blake, and Deveraux) is a fictional character on the NBC daytime drama Days of Our Lives, a long-running dramatic serial about working-class life in the fictional town of Salem. She was born onscreen February 6, 1976; changed to September 11, 1976; later birth year is changed to 1970. Jennifer was developed by Pat Falken Smith, a screenwriter, and Betty Corday, an executive producer. Melissa Reeves, who portrayed Jennifer on and off for almost 19 years beginning on October 9, 1985, is most closely identified with the character. Jennifer’s stories often revolved on youthful love and romance. She is a member of the Hortons, the original core family around whom the soap was created.
Bill Horton and Laura Horton are her parents. Despite her beginnings as a rebellious adolescent, she has grown into one of the show’s most iconic heroines. Jennifer is well-known in the soap industry for her (famous) coupling with Jack Deveraux, who is played by Matthew Ashford. Jack and Jennifer, dubbed “J&J” by soap fans, have become one of the most notorious supercouples in the industry. Critics have praised Reeves’ portrayal of Jennifer, with TV Squad complimenting her for “becoming one of the most adored actors to ever appear on Days of Our Lives.” For her depiction of Jennifer, Reeves has received many accolades. She won the Soap Opera Digest award for Hottest Female Star in 1995. In 1992, she received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Younger Actress in a Television Drama.
