Shailene Woodley’s acting career began slowly, with a modest role in the 1999 television film Replacing Dad. She portrayed the younger version of the main character in later small-screen appearances on episodes of The District and Crossing Jordan.
She made her acting debut in the 2004 television film A Place Called Home as California Ford, which earned her a nomination for a Young Artist Award.
Additionally, Woodley played young Kaitlin Cooper in The O.C. and Felicity Merriman in the 2005 television film Felicity: An American Girl Adventure, which earned her a second nomination for a Young Artist Award.
She appeared in a number of TV episodes after these ones, such as Cold Case, My Name Is Earl, CSI: NY, Close to Home, and Everyone Loves Raymond, in cameos.
Her most well-known television role was that of Amy Juergens in The Secret Life of the American Teenager (2008–2013). The show focuses on a 15-year-old girl’s pregnancy and explores the impact it has on her family, friends, and experience attending Grant High School.
She received great praise from Entertainment Weekly’s Ken Tucker for her work on the series and for raising the standard of the show. The five seasons of The Secret Life of the American Teenager 121 episodes were a success, with high viewership figures.
