Is Peter Nygard In Jail? The Canadian Executive Known For His Women’s Clothing Business

The 80-year-old Peter Nygard has been in custody since being arrested in Winnipeg in December 2020. He has been denied bail multiple times when appealed in court.

Justice Shawn Greenberg stated that she was not convinced of Nygard’s defense attorneys’ proposed bail arrangement. They guaranteed that he would not contact witnesses or have others contact them, but it was not convincing for the judge.

The Manitoba Court of Appeal rejected the case after Nygard’s defense filed an appeal of the verdict. Nygard then requested the Supreme Court to hear his bail case, but his request was denied.

In January this year, Ontario justice of the peace John Scarfe denied Nygard’s request for bail during a virtual hearing. Nygard attended the trial over Zoom from the Toronto South Detention Centre.

Arrest And Charge: Insights On The Accused Crime Of The Canadian Executive

Peter Nygard is accused of crimes involving dozens of women and juvenile girls, including sex trafficking, racketeering conspiracy, and other offenses.

The multimillionaire is accused of using his company’s influence, money, and employees to recruit adult and “minor-aged female victims.” This incident occurred for 25 years in countries like the US, Bahamas, and Canada.

In December, the Manhattan office of the United States attorney filed a nine-count federal indictment against him. Since his arrest on December 14, Peter has been detained in Winnipeg jail.

The sugar and carbohydrate-rich jail diet has caused him to experience fainting episodes, lose weight, and become “violently unwell.” He has filed for bail in multiple courtrooms, but everybody has now denied his request.
