She died on November 22, 2021, at age 56 in Midwood, New York, United States.
The body of Malikah Shabazz was discovered at her home in Brooklyn — just days after two men convicted of killing her father were exonerated over his 1965 murder.
The judge dismissed the convictions of Muhammad Aziz and the late Khalil Islam after prosecutors and the men’s lawyers said the renewed investigation found new evidence that undermined the case against them.
Born September 30, 1965, Malikah Shabazz was one of the twin daughters of Malcolm X and his wife Betty Sanders Shabazz. Betty was pregnant with the twins when Malcolm X was assassinated at the Audubon Ballroom in Washington Heights, a New York neighborhood, on February 21, 1965. Betty died in 1997.
Malikah Shabazz is survived by her five sisters; Ilyasah Shabazz, Gamilah Lumumba Shabazz, Malaak Shabazz, Qubilah Shabazz and Attallah Shabazz, and her daughter Bettih-Bahiyah.
She was interred at Westchester Cemetery.
