Lennay Kekua, who used to be the girlfriend of Teo Diane O’Meara, is a fake identity created online.
The two-part documentary series, UNTOLD: The Girlfriend Who Didn’t Exist, examines the accurate catfishing tale of Manti Teo, a Samoan-Hawaiian football linebacker from Laie, Hawaii.
Is Lennay Kekua A Real Person?
Teo received the devastating news that his grandmother and girlfriend, Lennay Kekua, had passed away from cancer on the same day in September 2012.
But according to a January 2013 study by the sports blog Deadspin, Kekua never actually existed.
In the Netflix documentary UNTOLD: The Girlfriend Who Didn’t Exist, Naya Tuiasosopo, formerly known as Ronaiah, explains that Kekua was a phony internet persona she established. With the pronouns she/her, Tuiasosopo now identifies as a transgender woman.
Tuiasosopo claimed in Untold that she had been attempting to determine her own sexual identity when she made Kekua’s fictional account and began forming online relationships.
According to Tuiasosopo, she and Teo connected over their shared Samoan heritage, religious convictions, and love of football. According to The Guardian, Teo played in the NFL, Tuiasosopo’s father played at USC, her uncle played for the Rams, and her cousin played for the Raiders.
Tuiasosopo fabricated Kekua’s passing to break off their online romance in September 2012. Teo was convinced that Kekua had succumbed to leukemia after a protracted hospitalization. In UNTOLD, he remembers how she was waiting for a bone marrow transplant, and every night, I would go off to sleep listening to her breathing on the phone.
Despite the tragic passing of his lover and grandmother, Te’o’s football prowess captivated and inspired the sporting globe. After Teo’s athletic career took off, however, and in particular, after he was named one of the three contenders for the Heisman Trophy, which is presented to the best college football player, skepticism was expressed by sports media outlets.
So Lennay Kekua is not an authentic persona and was a fake online identity created by Naya Tuiasosopo.
Lennay Kekua Real Name and Manti Teo Diane O’Meara Catfishing Incident
Lennay Kekua is a fake name. As reported by the Daily Mail, the woman who appeared in the images purported to be Lennay Kekua was a marketing executive named Diane O’Meara who had nothing to do with it. The 23-year-old marketing executive was outraged that Manti Teo’s dead girlfriend’s face was faked using her image.
Netflix started streaming the program “Untold: The Girlfriend Who Didn’t Exist” in 2022. From Notre Dame to the NFL, Manti Teo’s football career appeared to be headed in the right direction until a secret online romance drove his life and job into a tailspin.
According to the hoax, Kekua, 22, was killed by leukemia after suffering injuries in a vehicle accident in California. Deadspin reports that the Sports Illustrated author even spoke of how, “during her lowest points, while she fought to awaken from a coma, her respiratory rate would increase at the sound of his voice,” according to his relatives.
According to Deadspin, the football player discussed Kekua’s letters on television, and the touching tale was shared in other reputable outlets.
On October 10, 2011, @MTeo five and @lovalovaloveYOU started a romance on Twitter.
However, the images on that account were of another woman, not Kekua, who Deadspin had discovered. She revealed that she had given the photo to Ronaiah Tuiasosopo, a high school pal who became the football player’s family friend. Currently known as Naya Tuiasosopo, Tuiasosopo is a transgender woman.
This sick game made Toe angry, but obviously, he had to move on and forgot the story.
Lennay Kekua Person behind the Name
As Lennay Kekua doesn’t exist and is limited to an online hoax name, people are curious to know the person behind the title. Ronaiah Tuiasosopo, now a transgender woman, created Lennay in 2008.
Lennay Kekua used to be the online girlfriend of Teo. Teo was deadly serious about the relationship, but unfortunately, he later knew it was a part of a nasty game that made him sick.
