Packham was born on May 4, 1961, in Southampton, Hampshire. His educational background includes Bitterne Park Secondary School, Taunton’s College, and the University of Southampton, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Zoology.
After receiving his degree, he gave up his doctoral studies in philosophy to pursue a career as a wildlife cinematographer.

The adored Springwatch host has been in a committed relationship with Isle of Wight zoo owner Charlotte Corney for many years. Chris said how his Asperger’s Syndrome prevented him from making eye contact with Charlotte during the “intimidating and tense” situation when he first met her when visiting her zoo.
On The Different Minds podcast earlier this year, he admitted, “I so admired Charlotte and I wanted to build a relationship with her.
“But even though I truly liked the way she looked, I found it extremely, incredibly difficult to look at her because I was so terrified by it and under so much pressure!”
Charlotte subsequently told Chris, “I thought I’d met the craziest person since I was with them for six months and they didn’t look at me once,” Chris recalled Charlotte saying.
Despite living apart and having not yet gotten married, Packham has been in a relationship with Charlotte Corney, the proprietor of the Wildheart Animal Sanctuary, for more than ten years.
