How to update links in excel

Changing Links
  1. Choose Links from the Edit menu. Excel displays the Links dialog box.
  2. Select the link you want to change.
  3. Click on Change Source.
  4. In the Change Links To box, specify a new path for the file you want used as the source of the link.
  5. Make any additional link changes necessary by repeating steps 2 through 4.
  6. Click on OK.
  1. Close all workbooks.
  2. Open the workbook that contains the links. ( This is the destination file and not the source file)
  3. On the Data tab, in the Manage Connections group, click Edit Links.
  4. In the Source list, click the linked object that you want to update.
  5. Click Update Values.
If you choose to not update links, and not to prompt, users of the workbook will not know that the data is out of date. Go to Data > Queries & Connections > Edit Links > Startup Prompt, then select the option that you want..
Here are the steps to find external links in Excel using Find and Replace:
  1. Select all the cells.
  2. Go to the Home tab –> Editing –> Find & Select –> Find.
  3. In the Find and Replace dialog box, enter *.xl* in the ‘Find what’ field.
  4. Click on Find All.
When you see the Edit Links dialog appears, you will see a listing of all the external Excel files that are getting data pulled from them. To remove/break the link, simply select the rows you wish to remove and click the Break Link button.
