Can we ever travel at the speed of light?
So will it ever be possible for us to travel at light speed? Based on our current understanding of physics and the limits of the natural world, the answer, sadly, is no. So, light–speed travel and faster-than-light travel are physical impossibilities, especially for anything with mass, such as spacecraft and humans.
Why is it impossible to travel at the speed of light?
According to Einstein’s general theory of relativity, as an object moves faster, its mass increases, while its length contracts. At the speed of light, such an object has an infinite mass, while its length is 0 — an impossibility. Thus, no object can reach the speed of light, the theory goes.
What would it feel like to travel at the speed of light?
The person traveling at the speed of light would experience a slowing of time. For that person, time would move slower than for someone who is not moving. Also, their field of vision would change drastically. The faster one goes, the more thrilled one feels, although for some, speed can be really intimidating.
What happens if you travel at the speed of light?
Answer: Firstly, the physical consequence of traveling at the speed of light is that your mass becomes infinite and you slow down. According to relativity, the faster you move, the more mass you have. So, traveling at the speed of light in the conventional way is impossible.
How fast is the speed of dark?
Is there such a thing as the speed of dark? In a 2013 study, scientists determined that dark matter should have a speed of 54 meters per second, or 177 feet — slow compared to the speed of light.
What is the fastest thing in the universe?
Laser beams travel at the speed of light, more than 670 million miles per hour, making them the fastest thing in the universe.
