How to make avocado smoothie

Indeed, avocado can play as well with mango, pineapple and citrus as it does with chocolate, coffee and vanilla. If you’re having trouble embracing avocado as a fruit, both Jinich and Ferroni recommend tossing chunks of it into smoothies, which Jinich called “a perfect gateway for avocados” — or even margaritas.

Blend the milk, sweetened condensed milk and ice in a blender until very smooth. Add the avocado flesh and blend again until smooth. The mixture will be quite thick; add cold water a few tablespoons at a time, blending after each addition, until the mixture is pourable.

Cleansing Apple Avocado Smoothie

Fresh and creamy with avocado, apple, banana, spinach, and fresh ginger, it’s the perfect green smoothie for weight loss, detox, and healthy breakfasts too.

It’s sweet, thick and creamy and tastes like an avocado-flavored milkshake. The traditional version uses a lot of condensed milk to sweeten the drink and create a thick milkshake-like texture. However, this is a lightened version that tastes just as creamy and delicious.

Avocados are a great addition to smoothies – they can add creaminess to the consistency of your favorite fruit smoothie recipe or be a fresh non-dairy addition to add smoothness to fruit and/or vegetable smoothie recipes.

Aim for at least one or two handfuls of raw spinach in each smoothie you make. With its light and delicate flavor, spinach blends seamlessly into all smoothie flavors. Along with spinach, add some plain Greek yogurt, a splash of milk or juice and your favorite fruits.

Spinach is one of the most nutritionally-dense vegetables out there. It’s low in calories, but high in fiber, folate, calcium, and vitamins A, C, and K. Try it: Blend spinach with other delicious fruits and vegetables to make a green smoothie that’s full of fiber, healthy fats, vitamin A, and iron at only 230 calories.

I use baby spinach because the leaves are extremely tender, require no extra preparation, and have very little bitterness. I often like to prepare individual freezer packs for a smoothie recipe for meal-prepping. This makes it easy to just grab the plastic bag with premeasured ingredients and blend.

“If you juice vegetables, you lose the fiber, which is a very nutritious part of the vegetable,” clarifies Leigh Tracy, a Registered Dietitian and Certified Diabetes Educator at Mercy Medical Center in Baltimore. However, she continues, “If you blend them, you are not losing any nutrients.”

While eating a smoothie as a meal could be a healthy option, in order to make it nutritious, it’s important to make sure the smoothie contains a mix of foods that would be similar to a meal, says Andrews. “If someone just blends up some fruit, I wouldn’t say that’s an adequate meal,” he says.

Blended fruit isn’t nutritionally equivalent to the same fruit left whole, according to some experts. Although, of course, some properties remain present, including soluble fiber, blending can break down insoluble fiber.

Blending does not destroy fiber. A high-speed, professional blender will break it down, but you don’t get less fiber in a blended smoothie than you would if you ate the whole fruit. If anything, you are more likely to enhance nutrient absorption and speed up digestion.

The soluble and insoluble fiber of fruits and vegetables work together to slow digestion and the release of sugars. When you blend produce, you’re essentially pre-masticating it, or breaking down the insoluble fiber.

Smoothies are a nice option if you have IBS or other digestive problems. Plant fiber is pulverized when blended and therefore may be easier for your digestive system to handle. The “good guy” bacteria in your gut will be thrilled by the increase in the number of plant foods that smoothies provide.

Well, after a bit of research I found out that blenders do not destroy fiber. Blending does break down fiber into smaller pieces, however the fiber still remain intact. This is due to the ability of blended food to enhance nutrient absorption and speed up digestion.

The blending process

Blending works similarly by breaking down the fibers within the fruit and vegetables and releasing the nutrients during the blending cycle. Blending primarily changes the food’s appearance and texture by making them more liquid and drinkable. It, however, does not cause the loss of any nutrients.

Generally speaking, freezing helps retain the nutrient content of fruits and vegetables. However, some nutrients begin to break down when frozen produce is stored for more than a year ( 2 ). Yet it also results in the loss of water-soluble nutrients, such as B-vitamins and vitamin C.

One of the easiest ways to stay healthy and lose weight is by reducing your hunger pangs. Many of the fruits and vegetables have caloric value when you blend them. This makes it easy to eat as much as you want without worrying about weight gain.

Bottom Line | Are Smoothies Healthy? Some smoothies, especially the ones you make at home from whole fruits and vegetables, are high in vitamins, minerals, and many other beneficial nutrients. But for losing weight, smoothies tend not to be a good choice because they’re liquids.

Higher Blood Sugar Levels

Added sugars in your already-sweet smoothies can be especially bad for your body, and should be avoided if possible. But even if you‘re making your smoothie yourself using all-natural ingredients, it can still have a lot of the natural sugar in it.
