What’s the difference between a calzone and a panzerotti?

Panzerotti can be baked or fried, but they’re usually fried. In the Italian tradition, panzerotti are lightly and quickly, so you won’t be left with the same belly bomb as, say, deep fried Snickers bars. If a baked pizza pocket is what you’re after, then you’ll probably want to scan the menu for a baked calzone.

Unlike strombolis, which are generally rolled or folded into a cylindrical or rectangular shape, calzones are always folded into a crescent shape, and typically do not contain tomato sauce inside.

Why calzones are better than pizza?

The structure of calzones allows room for more stuffings and toppings. Because the bread acts as a pocket for stuffings and toppings, you can fit so much more goodness into the dish.
