How to install elfa shelves

We have storage. To install Elfa Decor shelving & desktops, simply line up the grooves on the shelf side with the notches in the bracket and press down firmly to lock it in place. Once we had the drawers and the desktops installed, it was time to move onto the shelves.

Drill all marked holes and put up the Top Track Take the top track off of the wall. Drill holes with a 1/8″73 mm drill bit, assuming you are going into wood. If you hit wood, continue drilling the entire length of the bit. Put the top track up and insert and tighten all the screws.

Basics. The Elfa BuiltRite Solutions catalog gives a basic capacity of 100 lbs. per linear foot, assuming the spacing between supports measures 24 inches. The depth of the shelves runs 12, 16 or 20 inches, supported by a top track that is mounted with Elfa anchors on 1/2-inch or 5/8-inch sheet rock.

Closetmaid shelf supports and shelves will fit on the Rubbermaid or Elfa vertical hangers and vice versa. You also can easily make changes to how you want the shelves organized much more so that the other two. If you want 16 inch shelves then look at their garage organizers, the system is the same.

The Elfa system has upgrades you can make to give it more style, but in general, it’s a pretty bare-bones system and doesn’t look like something a closet company would install. It’s worth the money if you want customizable options for your space, but you don’t want to spend on a custom job.

Elfa Weight Limits

When the top track is installed using wall anchors and the vertical standards are spaced 24 inches apart, the weight rating is 100 pounds per linear foot, 125 pounds per bracket or 500 pounds between two vertical standards. This rating applies to the 12-, 16- and 20-inch-deep shelves.

Two Platinum Elfa Ventilated Shelf Brackets are required to support every 36″ of ventilated shelf length. We can cut these shelves to any length free of charge.

BOOKSHELVES & SHELVING

Using only wallbands, brackets and shelves, you can quickly put up a built-in bookshelf, made-to-measure for your wall. Thanks to the durablity of the Shelving system the bookshelf can hold the weight of an extensive amount of books.

Anyway, there’s no clear guidance on what size screws to get on Elfa’s web site, since they want you to buy their stuff. You want #12 Philips countersunk wood screws, or 3/16″ Philips Tapcons, in length to suit.

Even more amazing, they are fully reusable, many times over.

Measure the width of the storage space at two positions (floor and ceiling). Remember to measure where the doors will be placed. We recommend placing them 675 mm away from the wall. You then have space for a wardrobe with a 40 cm deep interior, clothes on hangers and sliding doors.

Cutting Shelving, Closet Rods, and Hang Tracks

Wire shelving can be cut using a bolt cutter or hacksaw. Closet Rods can be cut using a pipe cutter (recommended) or a hacksaw. Hang Tracks can be cut with a hacksaw.

These come in 24″ lengths but can easily be cut to size if your shelves are a different size. Make sure and pick up a roll of the Standard & Upright Cover to cover the uprights! The roll covers 166″ or 2 standard 84″ uprights. Once you get your shelves in place, it’s time to organize!
