How do you install rivets in ride cymbals?
Flatten. With the cymbal upside-down, insert each rivet from the bottom and place flat on a hard surface (your block of wood should work a treat). A couple of blows with the hammer should be enough to flatten off the end of each rivet which will of course stop them falling straight out!

How do you remove a rivet from a cymbal?
If they’re steel rivets that flare at the bottom, you can use pliers to pinch the bottom around and they’ll fall out. If they’re brass rivets, you can usually and easily break the curl underneath which keep them seated or break off with pliers.
