About Origin
Origin is a digital distribution service and platform for video games. Origin is owned by Electronic Arts (EA). Origin offers the ability to purchase and play games, as well as profiles and profile management, networking via game joining and chat, sharing of game libraries, streaming via the TwitchTV platform, and integration with networking sites like Facebook, Xbox Live, PlayStation Network, and Nintendo Network. Origin also aims to compete with its largest competitor via offering cloud saves, auto-patching, and cross-platform releases. After launching in 2011, Origin had amassed more than 50 million registered users by 2013. Origin Access, the subscription service offered by EA for Origin members, launched in 2016.
Origin Access provides paying customers with the ability to access a large collection of EA game titles known as The Vault. Members also receive a 10% discount on all Origin purchases and trial periods on future releases. Origin Access Premier customers can also access the ability to play full versions of future EA releases early. This service was announced at E3 in 2018.
Origin Access Basic memberships are available monthly or annually. Monthly memberships are billed $4.99 every 30 days automatically until cancelled. Annual memberships are billed $29.99 each year until cancelled. Origin Access Premier memberships are also available in monthly or yearly plans. Monthly memberships are available for $14.99 per month and annual memberships for $99.99 per year. Both memberships automatically renew until cancelled as well. Origin Access memberships do not have a minimum commitment term and can be cancelled at any time without penalty.
