How to Cook Deer Sausage

Whether it is store-bought or homemade, deer sausage is a tasty game stuff that results in a wonderful diet. Because sausage links are bought readily pre-seasoned, this makes their cooking process a breeze that any member of the family can do. But if you don’t know the procedure, here is a step-by-step guide:

Requirements:

  • Stove-top or burner
  • Skillet or stainless steel pan
  • Food thermometer
  • Tongs
  • Position a skillet or a stainless steel pan on a burner then set it to a medium heat. Give it around 15 minutes to warm.
  • Then pour approximately 30 ml of virgin or regular oil to the skillet then allow it to sit until it begins sizzling.
  • Once the oil starts sizzling, set the deer sausages on the pan. After that, shake the pan to make the sausages coat with the virgin oil. This helps the sausages from sticking on the skillet.
  • To ensure that the sausage links cook thoroughly without burning, be sure to flip them after every two minutes using the tongs. In case they appear to be darkening on their surfaces, make sure you flip them several times.
  • Add some onions on the mixture to add more flavor to your sausages. Peel one onion, then slice it in half, then cut it across to form rings. Once the links fry for 10 minutes, add the onions with some olive oil then place them on the skillet pan.
  • Continue flipping the sausages for 15 more minutes, and as they cook, make sure you flip them every two minutes. In case you added some onions, continue stirring them around to prevent them from sticking on the pan.
  • After 20 minutes, inspect the sausages to check whether they are ready. Properly cooked deer sausages must be golden brown or dark and firm. Before you eat them, place a thermometer at the center of one sausage and when the inner temperature hits 71 degrees Celsius, the sausages are ready, and you can get them away from the skillet pan and enjoy your meal.

How to Cook Deer Sausage on the Grill

Ingredients

  • Charcoal, electric, or gas grill
  • Paper towels or basting brush
  • Tongs
  • Food thermometer
  • Start by heating the grill to an average temperature. In case you have an electric or gas grill, make sure you set it to 177 degrees Celsius (350 °F). When using a charcoal grill, construct a low fire, then relax for a while until you can easily hold your hand on top of the grate for approximately 6 seconds.
  • Having done that, brush the grill grates or the deer sausages with some olive oil. This is done to prevent the sausages from sticking on the grill. When the grill grates are not that good, you can oil the grill through dipping a paper towel inside olive oil then brush it along the grates.
  • Now place the sausages on the grill. Do this using tongs to keep your hands safe from burning. When using a charcoal grill, you can arrange the sausages close to the flame but not directly on top of the flame. Ensure that the links aren’t touching so that the sausages can cook perfectly.
  • With that done, turn all the links over after every three minutes using tongs. Doing this protects the sausages from burning. Also, remember to reduce the time when the version begins to darken.
  • Then grill the sausages until they hit an internal temperature of 71 degrees Celsius or 160 °F. Grill them to attain a golden brown or deep color. Most links take approximately 20 minutes to be ready, and to be sure that your meal is safe to eat, you can use a thermometer to inspect the fattest side of the sausage.
  • Finally, when the deer sausages are ready, get them away from the grill then give them some time to cool. When they get cool enough to be touched, serve them. Keep the leftovers on an airtight vessel then place them on the refrigerator for up to 4 days.

How to Cook Deer Sausage in the Oven

Requirements

  • A convection oven
  • Nonstick cooking spray
  • Roasting or baking pan
  • Microwave safe bowl
  • Basting brush
  • Food thermometer
  • Tongs
  • Begin by preheating your oven to 177 degrees Celsius. Doing this will raise the temperature that helps the sausages cook correctly without breaking the casing.
  • When using a baking pan, be sure to grease it using a cooking spray. Cover the lower part of the pan using a nonstick cooking spray. When you want to cook the sausages using a roasting pan, be sure to coat the rack located on the inner part of the pan using the cooking spray.
  • After that, for additional flavor, cover the pan using onions and bell peppers to the dish, although this is optional. Cut the ingredients in big pieces then place them on the lower side of the cooking pan.
  • In case you will be cooking the sausages using a roasting pan, make sure you cover it using cooking oil before you add the onions and peppers.
  • Add a little butter chunk on an oven-safe bowl then wrap it using a paper towel. After that, microwave it and make sure it’s fully melted. Coat the sausages using the butter to add taste using a basting brush. Doing this traps more flavor as the sausage roasts.
  • Then place the sausage links on the roasting pan racks or the baking pan. To help the sausages bake perfectly, ensure they aren’t so close to each other. Position the pan at the center of the oven then allow the sausages to roast for about 15-20 minutes.
  • Once the sausages bake for 15 minutes, flip the sausages over using tongs to prevent your hands from burning. Doing this prevents them from overcooking. With that done, bake them for another 15 minutes.
  • Immediately the sausages look profoundly brown and feel firm when you hold them, use a food thermometer to press on the fattest link. When it reads around 71 degrees Celsius, your meal is ready. Remove the sausages from the oven then allow them cool before you serve them.
  • Store the remaining sausages on the fridge then store them for five days.
