How to clean dirty walls

Wash walls with oil-based paint using warm water and dish soap. Skip the white vinegar for walls with oil-based paint. The acid in vinegar can dull and damage oil-based finishes. Use dish soap, baking soda, and warm water, but keep your sponge a little damp while you’re scrubbing the dirt away.

Clean away.

This is especially helpful if your walls have grease stains on them. And if that isn’t getting the job done, create a solution of 1 cup ammonia, ½ cup vinegar, ¼ cup baking soda, and one gallon of warm water. Put the solution into a spray bottle, and spray onto the wall (a light layer – no need to soak it).

Tackle any stubborn stains

If you come across any stubborn stains on painted walls, turn to baking soda and water. Baking soda is a natural stain fighter—mix a half cup of baking soda with a quarter cup of water until it forms a paste. Gently rub that paste into the stained part of the wall and the stain should lift.

Vinegar will not be harmful to the paint on the walls, so do not worry when applying how to clean the stain on the wall with vinegar. Fill a bucket with clean water and add the vinegar, making sure to replace the water when it becomes dirty.

White vinegar is a mildly acidic product that cleans, deodorizes, and disinfects. It can also kill 82% of mold species, including black mold, on porous and non-porous surfaces. You can use it safely on most surfaces, and its offensive odor goes away quickly. Pour undiluted white vinegar into a spray bottle.

Regular Cleaning

If you need even more firepower, create a solution containing 1 cup ammonia, 1/2 cup vinegar, 1/4 cup baking soda and one gallon of warm water. Add the solution to a spray bottle, spray the solution onto the wall, and lightly scrub with your sponge.

Baking Soda (or Vinegar) & Heat

A natural way to remove paint from metal surfaces is to combine baking soda and water or white vinegar and water over a heat source. You can do this on your stovetop with a disposable pot or pan.

Flat ceilings: Combine 1 cup warm water, 4 drops liquid dish detergent and 2 tablespoons white vinegar in a spray bottle. Lightly spray the area then go over it with a damp paint roller or microfiber mop. Cover the roller with a clean white cloth dipped in water and dab the area again to remove soapy residue.

Cleaning white walls with baking soda

You can spot clean the wall with baking soda. Maker recommends taking a damp microfibre cloth, dipping it in baking soda and gently rubbing it over the stained area. ‘Wipe it off and follow it up by buffing it dry with a dry cloth, that will get rid of the residue.
