How to ask alexa for music

Alexa supports many music services: Amazon Music, Apple Music and Podcasts, Spotify, iHeartRadio, TuneIn, Pandora, Deezer, SiriusXM, Tidal, and Vevo.

With Alexa and Prime Music, it’s all at no extra cost and super easy. Find your music by asking Alexa to play a song using title, artist, lyric, playlist or station. You can also stay up to date on the news — just ask Alexa to play the Weekly One.

Amazon now makes it easy to enjoy (some) tunes for free

Most people use Amazon Alexa speakers for music, and if you‘re the proud owner of an Amazon Echo (or indeed any smart speaker with Alexa built in) you can enjoy music for free.

Using Alexa Voice Commands

To play a specific playlist, you should say: “Alexa, play [the playlist name].” You should note that there is no need to add “my” or say something like: “Alexa, play my [the playlist name.]” That might confuse the app, and Alexa would respond that it can‘t do it.

To play your own MP3s (or music encoded in other formats, such as FLAC) on the Echo or other Alexa-compatible devices, you can still use Plex or My Media Server for Alexa, both of which allow you to stream songs you‘ve stored on another device.

Your Alexa-enabled smart speaker can identify songs, but you’ll need to say a specific phrase: “Alexa, what song is this?” If you’re listening to music through Amazon Music, you can also turn on the Song ID feature, which will cause Alexa to announce the name of each song before it starts playing.

The voice-controlled “personal assistant” on these devices is called Alexa, which will perform various tasks for you and control various systems. In this feature, we’ll explain what Echo is and what Alexa can do.

There is no Shazam skill available on your Echo devices, so you can‘t simply ask your Echo device to listen out and identify a playing song. This is actually by design – Amazon don’t really want third party skill developers to be able to listen in on everything around an Echo device for obvious privacy reasons.

Song ID is now available for Amazon Music users in the US.

While Midomi allows users to search for music by singing or humming a tune, Shazam currently only allows users to find songs if they are played by the original artist – not hummed or sang by users.

Tap on the mic icon and say “what’s this song?” or click the “Search a song” button. Then start humming for 10 to 15 seconds. On Google Assistant, say, “Hey Google, what’s this song?” and then hum the tune.

Hum to Search on iPhone

Users can tap the mic icon in-widget or in-app to call up the search function, then either tap ‘Search a song‘ or say ‘what’s this song? ‘ for the song search option. Hum the tune, then wait for the results to show up.

SoundHound: SoundHound is probably the best alternative to Shazam when it comes to music identification. No other app comes so close to Shazam. SoundHound identifies the song in an instant and also provides you with the lyrics to the song. Additional features include singing and humming recognition.

The downside to Shazam is that it requires the original song to identify, so you can’t just hum or sing into it, and tagged songs can’t be bookmarked for later reference.

Accuracy. It would seem as though SoundHound is clearly the better app between the two, but when it came down to the most important test of all, tagging music, Shazam was more accurate. With SoundHound you can find a song title just by humming the tune – but the results are hit and miss.

To get started using Google’s new feature, grab your phone and open the latest version of the Google app or Google Search widget. Then, tap the Microphone icon and say “what’s this song?” You can also tap the Search a song button. Finally, start humming, singing or whistling the tune to get your results.

The new feature is available today in the Google app on both iOS and Android, or in Google Assistant — just ask Google “What’s the song” or tap the newly added “search a song” button, and then hum your earworm.

SoundHound can identify a song by listening to the melody – you can sing it, hum it or even whistle it. To start, just tap SoundHound’s orange button, and it will do its best to match your recording.

Shazam, which first launched in 2002, is a free app for both Google Android and iPhones that can identify songs for you. It uses your smartphone’s microphone to listen to the song that’s playing, whether it’s on the radio or TV, or even just in the pub, and then identifies it from its database of tracks.

Shazam. If you are looking for an app to identify music then Shazam is one of the most popular apps out there that can correctly recognize songs without many failed attempts. The app is available on Android and iOS and it works very well. And as I mentioned above, even Siri uses the Shazam database to identify songs.

On an Android phone, go to Settings > Google > Search, Assistant & Voice > Voice > Voice Match, and turn on ‘Access with Voice Match’. (Note that this is the procedure for stock Android, as developed by Google, and as available on the Pixel.
