Paul is an American politician from Chicago, Illinois currently running for the Mayor of the city. He is the grandson of Greek immigrant grandparents Sam and Keratso Valesares and grew up in the Roseland neighborhood of Chicago.
The Chicago mayor was born to his parents Gust S. Vallas and Mary Vallas as one of their four children. Paul’s siblings include Sam, Dean, and Marianne. As a child, he and his siblings grew up together working in Paul Vallas parents’ Greek Restaurant, according to his Mayoral Campaign Website.
Unfortunately, Paul’s father Gust passed away on April 21, 2021, at the age of 94 years old surrounded by Mary and other members of the Vallas clan at their home in Orland Park, Illinois. He served in United States Army during World War II based in Germany as an intelligence officer.
Now the Chicago mayoral candidate Paul Vallas is happily married to his partner Sharon and has two grown-up sons. He lost his youngest son Mark to opioid addiction at the tender age of 24 in 2018.

According to Chicago Tribune, Paul comes from a public service clan who has dedicated their life to work and making sacrifices for the betterment of the public.
Among others, there are four police officers and a firefighter who have always worked as first responders in case of emergencies. Sharon is also a former police officer.
Similarly, Paul Vallas’s wife Sharon Vallas works as a Transportation Safety Administration at Midway Airport overnight providing insurance facilities to the general public, reports Chicago Tribune. The mayoral candidate added that his wife works not for income but to serve the community.
Sharon had her second hip replacement surgery in November 2022 but everything went fine and she was on her feet the very next day, according to a Facebook post made by Paul updating his followers on Sharon’s health.

Sharon was born on April 1, 1957. Sharon is younger than her husband Paul who is 69 years old and was born on June 10, 1953.

However, this is not the first time Paul and Sharon have lived separately. Paul has worked in different parts of the United States of America and even abroad. He has worked in New Orleans, Connecticut, and Philadephia, among other places.
Internationally, Paul has worked in Haiti as well. Sharon never followed Paul around as she was busy raising the pair’s three kids and looking after Paul’s parents back home in Chicago, she has done a lot of sacrifices for the Vallas clan.
Thanking for Sharon’s sacrifices, Paul shared an emotional post on his Facebook account. He wished Sharon mother’s day and thanked her for being an inspiration and raising their two sons to be fine men.
The pair have never shared glimpses of their anniversary celebration on the web or have wished one another for the occasion publicly. Nevertheless, the couple is happily married.
His Sons Are First Responders

He also has another son Mark, but the family lost him in a tragedy.
Paul Vallas Jr
Paul Vallas Jr is the eldest child of Paul Sr and Sharon.
Paul Jr. served in Afghanistan as Navy Corpsman and Combat Medic for the 5th Marines before returning to join Chicago Fire Department to become a firefighter.
The mayoral candidate shared a post on his Twitter account saying he was honored to attend Navy Seals Foundation Midwest event to honor Pat & Shirley Ryan with his veteran son Paul now working as a firefighter.
According to Paul Sr.’s Facebook bio, Paul Jr. has also worked as a police officer in Wheeling Illinois. He has might have served the police force before serving his community to fight the fire.
Paul is 34 years old as of 2023 but his actual date of birth has not come to the surface yet. He does not get wished publicly by his parents or his siblings through social media. Furthermore, his social media accounts also remain unknown.
Gus Vallas
Gus Vallas is a police officer. Gus has served in the police for the past five years now.
According to Chicago Tribune, Gus serves in the San Antonio police department and was one of the three police officers who fatally shot a 28-year-old man last year. The man had an outstanding arrest warrant for a felony when he tried to flee the arrest.
However, Gus was found clear of any wrongdoings and violation of protocols or procedures and has been returned to full duty by the police department according to Block Club Chicago.
Gus is married to Leslie Alvarez since January 2022. Paul shared the news of their wedding through his Facebook post but did not add any pictures from the celebration. Gus and Leslie welcomed their first son Konstantinos in September 2022.
The 31-year-old was born in January 1992 but his actual date of birth has not come to the surface yet. He is the middle child in the family.
What happened To His Son Mark?
Paul and Sharon lost their youngest son Mark to opioid addiction in 2018. Paul’s son Mark was just 24 years old at the time of his passing away.
According to Chicago Suntimes, Mark was clean at the time of his death and had already left the rehabilitation center, and was living in a group home. He slept and never woke up.
Mark passed away peacefully in his sleep due to an enlarged heart on February 24, 2018, his medical condition was due to his long-term opioid addiction, reports Chicago Suntimes.
Paul and Mark had a deep bond together, they would often go to the movies every Friday. Although Paul took all three of his boys to the movies, he never left Mark behind as he was the youngest of three and would mostly be with Paul and Sharon at their home.
Furthermore, Paul and Mark also worked in Haiti together. The father-son duo was always together helping Haitians recover from the devastating earthquake.
Mark opted for humor to hide his pain and sufferings, recalls Paul while speaking with Chicago Suntimes. He was also a religious man and kept a personal bible with him where he connected the plasm with his sufferings and pains. Mark’s bible is now in Sharon’s dresser.
Paul Vallas son Mark has been gone for five years now but he often mentions him during his speeches and talks programs.
