Bruce Russell was in his 70s when he passed away. During his radio career, he traveled to New Zealand. He began by composing ads, and while doing so, he began doing some on-air announcing and was sent to a variety of neighborhood stations.
Russell went to Timaru’s Radio Caroline in 1982 after serving at Apple Radio in Hastings, where he met breakfast host Peter Mac and became a longtime friend.
Following that, Russell relocated to Christchurch after Timaru, where he worked as a plot writer for a children’s TV show. He moved to Taumarunui to handle a radio station after a brief tenure before joining Newstalk ZB in Auckland in the early 2000s.
