Grainge has spent his whole professional life working in the music industry.

In 2013, Grainge was named the most powerful person in the world by Billboard magazine.

Mr. Irving Azoff referred to him as “‘the great hope for the music business,'” and Mr. Jimmy Iovine stated that Grainge is “working to restore [a] spirit of risk-taking and innovation” to the music industry by being “‘willing and open to entrepreneurship and that kind of thing the record industry has become depleted of.”

Billboard magazine published an interview with Grainge in which they stated: “If “power” means moving markets or authorising massive expenditures, Universal Music Group chairman Lucian Grainge demonstrated a staggering penchant for it when UMG completed its $1.9 billion acquisition of EMI’s recorded-music assets in September 2012.” He is a fearless and unyielding champion for the recorded-music industry,” says Grainge. According to a 2013 report by CNET, Universal is positioned itself to be “at the forefront of the pack” of big labels when it comes to embracing new digital possibilities. Grainge was the subject of a front-page Los Angeles Times article published in 2014, which said that “if anybody can rescue the music industry, it may be Grainge.”
