Colin Ray Jackson, CBE (born 18 February 1967) is a former Welsh sprinter and hurdler who specialised in the 110-meter hurdles. He earned an Olympic silver medal, three world titles, was undefeated in the European Championships for 12 years, and was a two-time Commonwealth champion during his career as a representative of Great Britain and Wales. His world record of 12.91 seconds in the 110 m hurdles remained for over a decade, and he still holds the world record in the 60 m hurdles. At the Commonwealth Games in 1986, Jackson won his first major medal, a silver in the 110 m hurdles, at the age of nineteen. He quickly established himself on the international stage, winning bronze at the 1987 World Athletics Championships and silver at the 1988 Summer Olympics. In 1990, he won European and Commonwealth gold medals after winning silver in the 60-meter hurdles at the 1989 IAAF World Indoor Championships. After winning silver at the 1993 Indoor Worlds, he went on to establish a world record of 12.91 seconds to win the 1993 World Championships.
This record stood for over thirteen years and is still the world championship record. Jackson was also a member of the British 4x100m relay team that won silver at the World Championships. Between 1993 and 1995, Jackson enjoyed a 44-race winning run, making him the most successful athlete of all time. In 1994, he not only won European and Commonwealth golds, but he also set a new world record in the 60 m hurdles, clocking 7.30 seconds. He set a European record of 6.49 seconds over 60 metres at the 1994 European Athletics Indoor Championships, where he won gold in both the 60 m hurdles and sprint events. His 1995–1996 seasons were cut short due to injury, and he only placed fourth in the 1996 Olympics. In 1997, he returned to the global podium for the second time, finishing second to Anier Garca in the Indoor World Championships and second to Allen Johnson in the World Outdoors. He won world champion indoors and out in 1999 after winning the European Championships for the third time in 1998. He placed fifth in the Summer Olympics of 2000, and his last big medals came in 2002, when he won European indoor and outdoor gold, as well as a Commonwealth silver. After working in sports management and coaching, he now works as an athletics commentator and television presenter (mostly for the BBC), and he has featured on Strictly Come Dancing in the past.
