Angus Buchan was a Scottish-born Zambian maize and cattle farmer who began his career in Zambia before being forced to sell everything and relocate to Greytown, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa in 1976 owing to political upheaval in Zambia. In 1980, he founded Shalom Ministries to preach in his neighbourhood. He has since become a full-time preacher, and the farm is now primarily operated by both of his sons.
Faith Like Potatoes, a novel about Angus’ life, was published in 1998 and was adapted into a film in 2006. Ordinary People, directed by Angus Buchan, is a semi-biographical film from 2012 that covers the tale of Buchan’s ministry’s rise from the 1970s to the present, as well as three fictional persons whose lives are changed after attending one of his conferences. Concerning criticism: “Angus does not receive any funds. He continues to live in the same wattle-and-daub home he built on his land. He continues to drive the same old automobile. He doesn’t even have health insurance.” Bruce Winship remarked.
