How many calories does farting burn

While you might feel lighter after pooping, you’re not actually losing much weight. What’s more, when you lose weight while pooping, you’re not losing the weight that really matters. To lose disease-causing body fat, you need to burn more calories than you consume. You can do this by exercising more and eating less.

Originally Answered: Does farting make you lose or gain weight? Farting makes you gain weight, but the amount is negligible! The gases in your colon are “lighter than air” and they are “warmer than the surrounding air” and thus they would rise in the atmosphere if they filled your entire body like a giant balloon.

While farting every day is normal, farting all the time is not. Excessive farting, also called flatulence, can make you feel uncomfortable and self-conscious. It might also be a sign of a health problem. You have excessive flatulence if you fart more than 20 times per day.

Farting can also mean that you have a healthy gut. NPR reported that letting one rip could be a sign that the microbes in our stomach are busy doing their jobs. Additionally, if you’re feeling bloated then passing gas will instantly reduce feelings of discomfort and flatten your stomach, the Huffington Post reported.

Recent research in animals suggests that hydrogen sulfide — one of the major components of smelly gas, the one that gives it that “rotten egg” smell — might provide some health benefits in humans, from preventing heart disease to kidney failure.
