How long do brown bears live

Brown bear vs Grizzly Bear:

They are mostly known as Brown Bears in European areas, unlike in North America where they are rather called Grizzly Bears- named from their grizzled fur coat. Brown Bears have a substantial lifespan of around 20 to 30 years in the wild and can live up to 50 years in captivity.

In the wild, the brown bears can reach 20 to 30 years of age. Despite this long life expectancy, most brown bears die very early.

Varvara, the world’s oldest brown bear — a mother of 29 bears — died at the St. Petersburg Zoo on Tuesday at the age of 35, caretakers said. The bear matriarch lived almost twice the lifespan of free-range brown bears, which average 15 to 20 years in the wild, the zoo said on its Vkontakte social network.

Ephemeral mayflies

We often hear that mayflies, like the whiteflies of the Susquehanna River, have the shortest lifespan of any animal on Earth, just 24 hours for many species.

#1 Mayfly: Twenty-Four Hours

The mayfly is a small flying insect that lives around lakes, ponds, and streams in North America. It belongs to the order Ephemeroptera. The fact that it belongs to this order says a lot about why this insect is at the top of the shortest lifespan list.

Grizzly and polar bears are the most dangerous, but Eurasian brown bears and American black bears have also been known to attack humans.

I used to think that they were 20-26, but apparently Grizz is almost 30, Panda is 28, and Ice Bear is 27.

The world’s record Alaska brown bear (Ursos arctos middendorffi) scored 30 12/16 and was taken near Kodiak’s Karluk Lake in late May 1952. The immense bear was shot by Roy R. Lindsley, who was a U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service employee based in Kodiak.

Play deceased: If the brown bear continues to charge at you, play deceased. Grizzlies attack when they feel surprised or threatened, so they tend to stop attacking when there’s no longer a threat. However, don’t just get up and run away once the bear leaves.

Black bears, for instance, are usually less aggressive and more tolerant of people. They often live near human settlements, whereas grizzly bears prefer to stay away from human settlements and are often extirpated from heavily used or populated areas. Black bears are excellent climbers.

Bears can turn on a dime while running full speed. There’s no chance you’ll outrun one–not ever. Alligators, on the other foot, might be less likely to perform speedy turns. I have been told a zigzag pattern might confuse a gator and throw it off the chase.

A human cannot outrun a bear if being chased. All bear species could easily chase down the average human. The only scenario where a human might out-sprint a bear is if a polar bear was chasing Usain Bolt.

Bears can not be domesticated, they are wild animals, and though they can be trained to a certain level, they can’t ever be entirely domesticated or tamed. The main reason bears cannot be domesticated is that they are solitary animals by nature.

The myth justifies this conclusion by saying that a bears front legs are shorter than it’s hind legs, so it can’t run downhill. This is FALSE. Bears can outrun you no matter where you try to run. They can run just as fast downhill as they can uphill.

Bears are attracted to anything that smells; it doesn’t even need to smell good. Garbage, compost piles, dirty diapers, pizza boxes, empty beverage cans…to a hungry black bear, it all smells like something good to eat.

Zigzag – If an alligator runs at you, you should run in a zigzag pattern to avoid getting caught. Alligators can reach speeds of 25 mph, so you are only going to slow your escape if you do not run straight, as fast as you can, away from an alligator.
