When Ricky Martin announced his engagement to Jwan Yosef, the entire globe was taken aback.
After seven months of dating, the couple became engaged in November 2016 when the musician, 46, proposed with matching rings.
Ricky made it very apparent that he knew their love “was unique” from the time they first met, but that first meeting wasn’t how they truly got married in secret.
Ricky Martin described how he met his fiance Jwan Yosef on Instagram during a town hall event with Andy Cohen, host of Radio Andy.
Martin says he accidentally came across the artist’s work on the well-known website one day.
“I’m scrolling and I see this beautiful piece of art and I’m like, ‘Whoa, how cool! Who’s this?’ Then I start checking and all of a sudden I’m like, ‘Ooh, ooh.’ ” And then I wrote to him,” Martin said.
“Then we were talking for like six months without me hearing his voice. We talked about art – nothing sexy … I swear, nothing sexy. It was all about art and life in general. He used to live in London, I went to London and I met him.”
The couple hasn’t held back from showing off their love on social media on the red carpet since they first started dating and after they got married.
Since Ricky wants to encourage other homosexual men to live their lives freely, the fact that their relationship is public is significant to him.
