Spanish professional golfer Jon Rahm Rodriguez was born on November 10, 1994. For a record-breaking 60 weeks, he held the top spot in the World Amateur Golf Ranking. Later, after winning the Memorial Tournament in July 2020, he rose to the top spot in the Official World Golf Ranking. Rahm won the U.S. Open in June 2021 to make history as the first golfer from Spain.
Rahm turned professional after the US Open, which meant he lost his exemption to the 2016 Open Championship. The following week, Rahm competed in his first professional event, the Quicken Loans National. For the first two rounds, he held or shared the lead, and he finished tied for third, four strokes behind the winner, Billy Hurley III. Because the Quicken Loans National was part of the Open Qualifying Series, Rahm was able to reclaim his place in The Open.
Rahm finished tied for second place in the RBC Canadian Open, earning him Special Temporary Member status for the rest of the season. As a non-member, he accumulated enough points to earn a PGA Tour card for 2017.
Rahm won his first PGA Tour title in late January 2017 with a 60-foot eagle putt on the final hole at the Farmers Insurance Open. With the win, he moved up to 46th in the Official World Golf Ranking and gained entry into the Master’s Tournament, The Players Championship, PGA Championship, and World Golf Championships. Rahm competed in his first World Golf Championships event on March 2nd at the WGC-Mexico Championship, finishing T3 two strokes behind winner Dustin Johnson.
